Seat Belt Unlatches At Will?

Pass seat belt is fine and thats all that matters. I don't Die as my over a year stays in hospitals have proved before so I ain't worried about it.

Is it a serious safety issue or something you ain't so worried about?

Fix it silly head.

Yeah what ever you guys think you can stick with in your own cars. I have bent my 69' F100 to the point that the bed ran into the back of the cab with no seatbelt. Wearing my seatbelt in my CRX I met the divider on Rt18 at 60mph and cracked some ribs cause of it :(

In something that could not have a seatbealt AKA my CBR1000 I broke right ankle, knee cap and hip. Then Tailbone, Pelvis, right hip and on up to the T10 and T12 Vertebra. While doing this I broke ribs off at the spine and put the small rib thru my right lung. Then the left wrist, elbow and shoulder along with the clavicle and the left lung than collapsed. This was being under the car to the point that the catalytic converter burned off my left nipple and we wont talk about the amount of road rash you get when your body lifts a car off the ground and stops it in 45 feet!

Once they did a helicopter ride to Robert Wood Johnson I went in to a full staff infection in my blood system along with double pneumonia. Coma for 6 weeks and I was out of the hospital in a lil more than 8 months. So that was just one accident, in other episodes my orbital socket in my skull and cheekbone has been broken along with the jaw on both sides and my nose 4 times now.

I could go on but it just makes me more pissed as hospitals all suck ass big time!

However I just did a run to get lunch and the belt held the entire way there and back so I will say it's fixed at this point...

So you rather go through all that again or worse when some idiot pulls in front of you, just because you didn't care to fix it?
Why even post about it then...

Why did this become a pro-seatbelt vs. anti-seatbelt thread?

it seems some members were trying to keep the emergency responders from having to scrap him off the pavement..

60 cars? well something was bound to go wrong eventually. this time it was the seatbelt.

also, in that video, it looked as though the button didn't come back up when it was plugged in. it might be full of coffee or soda and jamming up. somewhat common... i've had to clean them before.

Holy crap...it's an item that gets used twice everytime you drive, it's going to fail sooner or later...have you ever used a light bulb?? Ever replaced one when it burns out??? Same principle

I didn't mean for it to be pro-seatbelt or to that effect, just figured there was no use for this post... If he didn't care to fix it, why ask about it?
I wear my belt most of the time, but have gotten to not wearing it more now in my own vehicle (more so on the short trips) now that with the vehicles at work we drive don't wear them. Bad habit or ? I dunno?!
I said to fix it to hopefully prevent what has already happened to him, an accident and suffering. You never know when or where someone might get in your way. But if it doesnt matter to him, maybe the suffering will be 100x worse next time (and maybe more so for his family who just lost him?!)...

I never once wore the stupid things until the government decided to tell us we had to. I take it off as soon as I hit the back road because no cops patrol the road for now.

But, I do know a guy who got into a major accident and was wearing the seat belt, it nearly cut him in half. No joke, it was a 3 door truck where the seat belt mounts to the rear door. Got hit so hard the rear door flew off and landed in the bed, the cops said he would have suffered less injuries if he wasn't wearing his seat belt. That was nearly a year ago, and he is walking around on a cane going in for 5 more major surgeries soon which will put him down for another year.

I wear mine when driving but not when being a passenger. I like to relax being a passenger, tilt my seat back stretch put my legs. Like jeesh I nap half the time! Might as well enjoy it.

I would bet money that a dealer will be able to find you a seat belt latch. That same exact buckle is used in a bunch of different cars, and IIRC correctly the buckle is black and the sleeve that slides over the base is the colored part, so you can just use your old colored piece so it matches.

It obviously doesn't fail that often because nobody so far has said "oh yea, that's happened to me too". Ask the LS guys how many clock springs have failed in their cars. :q:q:q:q breaks, so unless you are gonna try to sue ford or do something legal, then just fix the belt and go on your merry little way. You are kinda making yourself look dumb driving around with a faulty seatbelt buckle. While your at it, go play some Russian roulette, let us know how that works out. IF something happens I'll feel bad, but I will say I told ya so...

The same thing happened on my Escort, but the dealer wouldn't sell me just a latch but only the whole belt assembly+latch. I ended up going to the wreckers and got one for free with a bunch of other junk I pulled, worked great again after that plus got all the interior trim pieces/carpet etc I was missing ;) ...
