I wasn't aware of the brake line having to be modded if I keep the stock caliper setup...please explain.
Mustang rotors are smaller
And that brake line on the rear is very stiff
good luck bending it by hand
You will also more than likely have to do some grinding
On the rear calipers so they clear the rotor. It should say this
in Ed's directions
Wow, there has been way too many different scenarios for this swap. I thought I read that if I changed the front rotors to the mustang ones, the mark calipers won't work and I would have to do a front brake swap? I already had some new front mark 8 rotors drilled and ready for install. This is getting way too confusing.
As for the rear brake lines...haven't heard anything about the stock setup not fitting properly. Does bending the line just make it fit a little better, or is it completely necessary?
I have a machine shop that is going to take care of the bearings for me.
Thanks for all the info fellas
Dlf maybe you should talk with ed about some royalty payments
If you're keeping the Mark VIII calipers, then you need the Mark VIII rotors, you've done the right thing.
So DLF, I am good with what I have?
I have read about the slight mods of grinding that need to be done for the bracket install. The rear cobra rotors should work with my stock Mark calipers as long as I have the brackets installed correct?
I haven't done that myself, but I believe that will work fine. Now for the front I should be able to use the Mark 8 rotors drilled to the mustang pattern with my stock Mark calipers with no problem?
Do I have to get braided lines, or is this just an upgrade I can do later?
Thanks
I'm running the lincoln calipers with mustang rotors and there is the offset I noticed. Will using the mustang calipers solve this issue? TIA
In the front or rear?
I'm not aware of a front rotor, other than the stock sized ones that will work with the Mark VIII calipers.
Yes, you'll need to modify the knuckles to clear the relocation brackets, and the stock caliper brackets in a couple of places to clear the rotors, as outlined in my instructions.
I haven't done that myself, but I believe that will work fine.
You can upgrade the lines at any time.
You're welcome.![]()
I have recently finished the swap front and back using mustang(cobra) parts and the brackets from ED.I used mustang rotors and hubs for the front as well. The mustang rotors for the front are a little smaller than the lincoln so the pad contact is a little off.It still works fine you just may have to moniter the pads more closely. The reason I did all this was because the guy I bought my car from had redrilled the lincoln rotors for the rear but it was not real flash. So I started with the hubs, brackets and rotors on the back and went ahead and rebuilt the whole front end and replaced both rotors and hubs.If you have any questions I will answer what I can and what I dont know I will tell you that as well.DLF knows this stuff backwards and forwards if you check his replies. Good luck.
Was it difficult to pull the rear hubs out from the knuckle? So I have to take the entire knuckle to the machine shop and have the bearings pressed out and the new ones back in?
Both the hubs and the bearings will need to be pressed out and back in.
I bought a spare set of rear spindles and built them up.I have a really neat old english flypress in my shop and it made quick work of removing and installing the bearings and the hubs.I am in Georgia and if you were here I would help you do it.H e l l, Id let you use my lift too. They shouldnt charge you that much to change everything out but make sure they seat the hubs all the way.I will be getting some cobra front calipers here shortly for mine.Maybe I should just find some knuckles from the junkyard and then I could have the machine shop do the work. Then I could put the brackets on after I get them back. I wish I had another car to drive, but the wife needs to go to school. How much do you think the knuckles would be? I think I read that you sell them, or do rework for people?
Its simple
Front
If you do if you do Gt calipers you need Gt rotors
If you do mark calipers you need to redrill mark rotor
If you do cobra calipers you need cobra rotors
As for the rear hubs if the shop does bearings a lot
It should take them 1hr
I mispoke about the rotors as they are GTs and not cobras.Slowmark,Thank you for that info.I was hoping there was a remedy for the misalignment on the front cobra rotors with the calipers.
