yesterday i was at my shop washing and vacuuming my 97, then i pulled the 98 inside and washed that, its been sitting outside so long it looked like ass. so i left the shop after i was done and on my way home in my 97 i could smell coolant. when i got home i grabbed a flashlight and opened the hood, i could see coolant near the pass side top radiator hose, i thought the hose was loose so i tightend it and still leaking. so i closed the hood and went to bed. after work today i went to the shop, backed the car in and pulled the radiator out, i put it on the work bench and i could see, where the spout was for the upper hose if i pulled the spout to the side there was a crack in it where the spout meets the side tank. so i changed the radiator and since i was in there i cut the trans lines and put in my external trans cooler that i have been putting off for about 8 months now. what a mess i made between coolant and trans fluid and not wanting to even touch my car tonight i finally am home, just ate dinner, now i can shower and go to bed. i hate working on my own car lol but at least its fixed and didnt cost me a dime.
 
looking to install my external transcooler is it hard ive never done one before id rather do it myself instead of paying a transshop to do it
 
nah not really, mine is motorcraft cooler and has a factory bracket that bolts to the upper header panel mounts that bolt to the header panel and the radiator core support, so you can see my cooler if you look into the grill. its not a huge one, but it will work great, i am also gonna mount a small 5 inch fan to it, and i need to pick up a small t fitting so i can hook up my trans temp gauge thats been in the car since i bought it lol!
 
Trans cooler. One of the best cheap mod to do to a automobile. Do ya completly bypass the oem trans cooler and just use the aftermarket one or use both. Always check trans fluid level after adding a tc.
 
I sometimes like to work on my car cause I get to enjoy the fruits of my labor. On the other hand I am lazy and been very busy so I have issues that need attention but been neglected. I have a passenger tweeter that fell into the door and my air compressor is weak and triggers the air ride warning when I have passengers. Too tired to pull Sapperfires and then slap it in mine. :lol:

Yeah blu, the trans cooler is duck soup. I have a small one that is strapped to my lower air damns opening and is kinda layed down. Its as wide as the opening and is half as long. Fits great, works great, cheap and took me 20 minutes to install.b
Seems to work great, stays touchable even after hammering on the car at the drag strip all night in 100* temps.
 
I usually do most of my own work when I can. Mainly because I can't afford to pay someone else to do it for me.:( I don't have a garage or a shop. Hell, I don't even have a carport. So any work I do is with the car either on ramps or jack stands while I lay on my back on the cold, cold ground. The front suspension on my wife's '97 needs to be completely rebuilt. I'm getting new upper and lower control arms, inner and outer tie rod ends, front and rear strut rod bushings, and sway bar end links for it as soon as we get our tax return. I called around to several shops for quotes on labor to install it all. The cheapest I could find was $450 bucks:eek:. Oh well. I guess I'll be doing it myself. She'll have to drive the Exploder for a few days:D.

I enjoy working on cars.....work on planes for a living. Any time I can wrench on mine I do, saves the "vein in my head" from popping out at the local Ford dealer and the service manager calling the cops on me!
 
How about if i bring my 1958 Westerner camping trailer we use as our hunting lodge and we would be happy to take out any wild boar, deer, etc in exchange for working on my mark...
 
Yep. The price is right, but it would take that much in gas just to get down there. So I wouldn't be saving any money anyway:(. Might as well do it myself. My nephew and bro-in-law are gonna come over and help out. We're gonna make a day out of it. Of course, we'll probably be drunk as heck by the time we're done...:D
