The insurance adjuster is coming out tomorrow to assess the damage of my car. There is $3300 damages on it. I know they are going to total it, but what should I say if they tell me some lameass number like $1500? I want to get at least $3000. Does that sounds feasable for a clean 93 Mark Viii with 109k on it?

Thanks!

From this thread right?

Tell them you want the car fixed.
You want it fixed at the shop the gave you the $3138.56 estimate.

Have them cut you a check so you can fix your car some dope wrecked.

Take money and fix car how you want, pocket the rest or take a cute girl out for some slap and tickle. :gr_devil:

I vote for Slap and Tickle...forget the car...ride the cute girl

So what happens if they say, "Okay, they can fix it" The, doesnt the insurance company send a check to the body shop?

I semi agree, she aint gunna lemme ride her to work though.

repairs always cost more than what the estimate is written up for,if you take the check you will have a hard time getting more.If the body shop gets paid direct from the ins, then you have a better chance of the ins co. coughing up more $$$$$ to finish the repair!!

Most larger cities have adopted to receive the check from the INS, this helps prevent over payment from the INS, it all depends really, different areas, different companies, different procedures

thank everyone for pocketing cash

a good body shop will bid higher for the cost of your deductable

I demand.... ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!

When it happened to me, they cut me the check.

How long did it take you after the adjuster came out and looked at it?

They give you the check.

Sounds good. Are there any laws or regulations that say they cannot low-ball me $1000? I have much proof that I could get $3k for it.

I was contemplating on this idea, however, I will pass it up:rolleyes:

They will only give you book. Sometimes you can get extra if you have allthe reciepts and its not Farmers Insurance. But only a few hundred at best. If you wanna keep the car then its usually book minus 10%

I would be focked if my car got totaled. I could sell it right now for $9000 with no issue but if some jack ass hit me then I would get $3500. :(

3500 for a 93 with 109k, not a chance in hell, i'd be shocked if they were anywhere near offering you 2 grand.

Retail book is about $3000 here for that car. So you should be within $200 +/- of that.

Sounds good. I don't know what that other guy above you is talking about when he speaks of Farmers. I think he is the same one that said I will have problems if the insurance is Farmers. THe other party does have Farmers and they have handled it 110% right so far. Less than one week and I have an adjuster tomorrow. Again, so far they have been great. Evidentally you have issues with them though? Can you expound?

Also, I printed off the KBB, which says $3045, NADA which says $3112, also, I have two CL ads showing cars like mine and what they are going for. Will this help out at all?

Thanks.

That guy above me was me!

Farmers sucks and wont pay extra even if you have reciepts showing new parts/mods. They will only go with private-retail book.

I have been through this many many times in the past and know a few adjusters as well. They generally go by private party value which in your case is as follows:

Excellent
$2,225
Good
$2,025
Fair
$1,550

Take those values and deduct $500-$600 if you keep it and that is the amount you will get. The low amount you get will show you just how much of a hassle the whole experience will be. Going by the adjusters evaluation you will get between $1000-$1500
and have a salvage title on top of it. You might be better off turning it in and looking for an undamaged Gen I. There is a very clean Gen I 93 near me with 78K on it for $2500.

When my daughter's 94 Accord was hit in the passenger rear door, the totaled the car immediately when I went to the insurance adjuster. The pay out was $4300.00 If I wanted to buy the car back, they took off $500 from the total buy out. Here in Texas, the wont fix your Mark, they will cut you a check. I suggest you buy the car back, keep it as a parts car, use the balance to look for another Mark.

a car is considered a total loss when the estimate exceeds 75% of the value of the car. I am not sure about texas but in NY/NJ if the car is 8 model years or newer the title is branded salvage, if older there is no branding done, so a 93 will be more then safe. The deduction that is taken from the value of the car is salvage retention, basically what the car is worth to the ins. company at auction/salvage. A 93 is worth about 125-150(depending on scrap). so that would be the deduction. Most ins. companies use an outside 3rd party to value the car(not kbb). Adding performance mods or making general repairs does not increase the value of a car, thats basic maintenance. Unless you have a recent receipt that you changed the engine/transmission/rearend. Thats the only time you may be given a concession, and at that it wont add much. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

I just got done dealing with a similar issue with my fiance's 03 Oldsmobile Alero 4 door.

She was side swiped by some ding dong towing a 35' 5th wheel camper trailer with a a chevy silverado 1500 single cab with stock mirrors. The driver didn't even see her in the left lane and pushed her into the concrete median. He was sited for failure to yield, improper lane change, insufficient towing equipment, failure to signal, etc...

His insurance state farm "appraised" the cars damage at $3,458 and said they would only cover impact damage on the passenger side! WTF!?! Then they transfered the claim to their total loss department and offered us $3800 and keep the car or $4100 and give it to them. She went ballistic and told that adjuster to go **** himself with that number and call back when he had a realistic figure. He later offered us $4100 and keep it or $4800 and give it to them. Again extremely pissed she told them where to shove it.

We then called Nationwide which is our insurance and explained the situation since we have full coverage. They sent out there own adjuster, took pictures, photocopied the "estimate" state farm wrote, and were extremely pissed that state farm was attempting to only cover the passenger side of the damage. They called back the next day telling us that the new estimate was $5380 in damage and it was transfered to their total loss department. They offered us $5100 and keep it or $5900 and give it to them.

According to Nationwide since we have full coverage and chose to go through them State Farm is now responsible for the $500 deductible and our rates don't go up even though it's a total loss due to the fact that the accident was not our fault. We feel that $5900 is more than reasonable and taking that money and buying either a 2000 F250 super cab long bed with the money from a friend, or one of several F150's extended cab 4 door short bed's that we've been seeing for sale recently. We feel Nationwide went above and beyond our expectations and frankly I hope I never have to deal with State Farm ever again.

i also had a 93 mark viii with 55000 mile, emaculant with around 4000 worth damage and yes they totaled it, they checked around the area and the average worth of the car was around 3800 or so and added what the junk yard would take for the lemon?and i came out with mid 4grand and turned around and bought the car that i own know. thats too back they just could fix the dang things since it had little miles, they thing its cheaper just to total that the hassle of fixing the car. sad and i had full coverage with an additional 1grand for after market parts(Progressive insurance) and still got around the 4grand and not a fix!why have full coverage if there just gonna total our cars out?ive got 60000miles on this 95 at the moment and bought it when it had 44xxxmiles and it was an LSC, i guess it was a better trade after all:)

That's why I have Nationwide. I've had them since I was 16 and have never had any issues with them. I plan on staying with them as long as possible.
