Have any of you ever had you climate control just check out on you? Today I was driving and mine flickered then went out. I got home shut the Mark off and turned the key to the on position and it worked again, blowing air and all. But when I started the car it was dead again. Any ideas or has this happened to anyone?

The older these cars get, the more problems will arise...

Sounds like the unit is going out...what year is your Mark?
Mine is a 93, but my climate control is from a 96 Conti, it works fine except I have to toggle the fan speed to start the blower fan...
And it has an added feature unlike the 2nd Gen decks...mine displays "OFF" when it's....off....lol

My Mark is a 93 but the climate control unit came out of a 95 or 96 not sure I replaced it two years ago... Mine also says "OFF" when off. lol I was thinking it could be bad but I just want to get some other thoughts on it before I go off to the bone yard and start digging.

I think I paid like $6 for mine...

Anyway, yours came from a 2nd gen mark?? Lasers doesn't say "OFF" maybe his is broke lol...
Also Jamie mentioned something about the auto climate wouldn't work if using a 2nd gen style in a Gen1
I just don't know anymore...some people say one thing, others say something else...I come on here and get as much info as I need, and still do my trial and error methods...
I say grab another, IMO the 2nd Gen looks way better... And the 96+ conti have the same style .....good luck

I saw that about the Gen 2 not working in the Gen 1... But on a lighter note I went back out to my Mark to start looking into it and its working again. I just want it to last until the end of the year when I am planing to park the Mark and get something else.

There are a lot of Ford products that you can use with your Mark VIII I know one of mine came from a Conti. Another one came from a Taurus. They have worked fine ... What I like best about the one from the Taurus is the outside temp will stay on.

stick a shot of the taurus one in here mang..ive forgotten what they look like

As I understan it a 93 thru 95 can use a climate control from a 96 but anything higher will not work. Can some one comfirm this.

The one I had in my 94 came from a Taurus too. Loved it.

looks exactly like the Gen2 and Conti climate control... nice to know they are in Taurus' also

not sure if they will work but "limited" explores have ones that look like that too. lots of late model fords do to, its just a matter on if it bolts in in correctly and if it controls everything properly.

Well I think I found out my problem... Went to hop in the Mark today and started it up the climate control came on and then went off. For some reason I decided to tap on the throttle and the Air Bag light came on and as the motor was returning to idle the Anti-Lock light came on and I heard a strange wring noise under the hood... Im thinking the alt is dying on me anyone care to second that theory?

It's possible but normally when the alternator is dying out, the battery will drain down and when things get to the point of going off and coming on, the message center will blink off and on, the radio, the EATC, the tach, speedometer and then death lol. Check your voltage but I know when my alternator went out, everything started blinking but just before this happened, I noticed that my compressor was slowly pumping up the car and I knew something wasn't right just from that sound. 10 minutes later, it was a blink show and then the car just died. Called AZ and they brought me a new battery (850/1000) Duralast which is made by Johnson Controls. They make the Die Hard, Motorcraft and many many others.

What had happened is I was running around on the reserve of the other battery and I didn't know it at the time. After the AZ guy got there, him and me talked to his manager over the phone to take my check card info, he installed it for me and I gave him a good battery, it was just dead. Gave him $10.00 too because he saved me a tow so it was worth it. I then went there and got one of their sorry azz alternators and have already went through one of them so far. Now on my 2nd one and so far, so good.

I just swapped out the AZ alt and everything is back in business. Thank God for lifetime warranties and also thank you Ford for making it easy to get to. Ive never met a car that is so finicky when it comes to electricity as my Mark.

If you have a battery charger, I would put a good over night charge on it to help out the AZ alternator. That's another thing that can kill one out is if it's put in with a half dead battery. Maybe you're in the clear now with the new alt but making sure the battery has a good charge can't hurt anything. You were running off the reserve capacity and it got low enough to cause the beginning of the blink show.

I have it sitting on one now. Its something I always do after I put an alt on.

You're set then! That AZ alt could last 2 weeks or it could last 5 years. I think my first one lasted 2 months and I believe what killed that one was a few WOT's. they don't like high rpm's for some reason. Now I just drive normal and so far, it's lasted a lot longer than the first one.

The two before this one dies because of some WOT freeways time... But the last couple died because of bad bearings. And it only lasted 6 months. So I understand the two days to 5 yrs thing.

i have a 98 mark and my climate control mod went out...can i use one from a taurus.....having trouble finding one for my 98

Take yours out and see what color the back is, black, orange, blue, grey and just stick it in to test it out. When I bought mine, it was said to have come out of a Taurus and it worked in my 94 but you're going to need to look for a 97, 98, 99 I would think.

If you put it in and turn the key to ACC and you hear the blower motor come on full blast, that's not the one for you. Some won't do anything at all but it's not much work to test one. 4 screws holding it in and then one plug in the back, along with the vacuum lines that are harnessed together. Check eBay also. The one you see pictured came from eBay but I found a lot of them in junk yards and sold them on eBay.

here is the deal, 93-94-95-and 96 units will all work in any of them years, the 96 units have the same face as the 97-98 eatc but the internals are not the same. 96 will work in all years 93-96. 97-98 will not work in first gens.
