I took my 93 in at the end of last year to get the recall done...last week I noticed my brake pedal was spongy so I bled the brake system, there was alot of air in the rears, after the bleed everything seemed normal, until today when the pedal went to the floor...got to my shop and got it on a lift and found the leak, it's coming from the recall switch that Lincoln installed, so I went to Lincoln during my lunch break and they told me that the recall was done (no kidding) and now "the case is considered closed" even tho the part that THEY installed is making my BRAKES leak!!!
Had to go thru customer service and they will consider reopening the case and doing the repair again

If they don't do it put a small video on Youtube about it describing how Ford went from trying to catch you on fire to now wanting you to die in a fiery crash because of no brakes. I'm guessing you will get a response.

Get in your car, go to were the recall was done, ask to talk to the manager.
Demand a answer to wtf is going on.
Demand they fix it.

I can't tell what I'm supposed to see in those pictures. I would definitely keepmpressing the issue. They should fix it. If they'll replace a 16-year old
Switch for the recall, they should definitely replace one that they replaced it with if it's defective.

First, is that under the master cylinder? 93 is the ONLY year where that is located, no in the fender like 94 up. Hard to tell with the pics.

Second the switch only gets replaced if leaking. If not a inline fuse it added to the harness.

Thats all.

Exactly what I was told on three Marks. None of the three were leaking and all I got was an inline fuse installed and I was out within 10 minutes.

i guess im not understanding how them installing wires and a fues makes your brakes leak?

At the time I did the recall the cruise control brake switch was not leaking, so they did not replace it.... THAT is the PROBLEM... If you've had the recall done the damn switch needs to be replaced...that's where it leaks, that's what catches on fire...brake fluid is flamable, the switch sits directly next to the driver exhaust manifold..

I went and got the damn part myself, and fixed it myself!!! Lincoln is incompetent!! I will not trust some idiot to ever work on my car again

Here is the leaking switch..it it located under the brake booster on the 93s

removed the master cylinder and removed the faulty switch

if you notice the stud and nut on the strut tower, that points at the brake booster, that is the PITA nut for the UCA...so since it was easy access now, I replaced both UCAs while I had everything apart, reinstalled master cylinder, bled brakes, threw wheels back on and DONE...rides awesome...and I can STOP again

I still done see what they did wrong. Per the TSB the switch only gets replaced if it leaks. It was not, so they did not.

It's not a TSB, it's a RECALL, there's a difference..they know these things leak and catch fire...if you think a fuse on a harness is going to stop brake fluid from getting on the exhaust and catching fire...then I'll see ya when you're taking pics of your crispy Mark8

And the same could happen with trans fluid, engine coolant (yup, it does) and even engine oil.

One can only Hope! lol. Of course, after it burned I would want to drive it. For now it sits and waits......

so if it leaks, and they put in the harness to make sure nothing catches fire what did they do wrong? its not their fault you have an 18 year old car that needs some maintenance. You have to look at it from fords point of view. They aren't going to fix a whole bunch of what I would call wear items on 18 year old cars if they harness fixes the fire issue. It just doesn't make financial sense.

I think the only thing the dealer could have done differently was try to upsell you the switch and get some extra labor out of it, but by the looks of things you would have probably done it yourself anyway.

If the switch is indeed leaking, its gets replaced and I think it also gets the harness. But if I am reading right, which is hard to do when reading a rant, then it sounds like he had the recall done (no leak, so just harness) and then later on it leaked out.

I thought if the switch leaks they replace it.
If not then they add the harness.
If it started to leak its up to ford to fix it, under the recall.

I don't blame you for fixing it yourself, I would have done the same.

the fused harness prevents the cars electrical system from shorting out and catching the switch on fire. ive seen them light up like a christmas light

ok ive done hundereds of this damn recall

if the switch is not leaking, all you get is the double fused jumper harness

if it is leaking you get a new style switch and a unfused adapter harness to fit the new stlye connector on the new switch

the switch isnt really a wear item it just is crap and ford aint gonna dish out any more money than they have to. look at the taurus ft spring recall. they break the spring then it hops off the perch on the strut and shreds the front tire and could cause a wreck. they know the springs are crap but they would only get replaced if they were broken. if not you got this shield thing to keep the spring from hitting the tire when it does break. so they know there is a problem with the spring, they know it is going to break but unless its broken you aint getting new springs just a band aid so you wont die when it breaks

Chicken, i understand the concept of the fused harness...however, adding a fuse in a wire does not prevent the pedal from going to the floor when the thing leaks, nor does it keep the leaked fluid from getting on the exhaust manifold..but whatever, I'm going to reroute my brake lines when I have time

If I only had seen this thread on sunday I would know if this is the exact problem I now have. Started the car sunday the foot went to the floor, puddle of brake fluid dripping from just before the front passenger wheel. Not sure where it is starting from but thanks to chicken this is where I am looking.
Seems like a easier fix than my damn IAC.
