Can anyone advise me where I can get one and what is involved in getting this tune. Do I need to send my CPU out?
What are the benefits? Is it just the timing thats changed?
How much does this usually cost?
Would I notice the change on my stock 98 LSC?

Thank You.

Timing, fuel pulse, IAC, cooling fans, TC lock up, shift points, shift firmness, rev limiter, speed limiter...... those all are changed.

Best bet would be to but a XCal-2 and then find a SCT dealer with a dyno. That is the proper way. A can tune can leave power on the table or run the motor too close to its limits.

Laser is right, the X3 has bugs. I've got one and the computer goes nuts when you try to datalog it. The X2 is the way to go if you can get ahold of one, just make sure (as he said) that a shop with a dyno locally will work with it first.

Speaking of tuning, is there any way to turn off the egr and related things in my computer w/o purchasing a tuner? I am getting the CEL that has to do with the EGR! Can I have a tune shop just flash the computer or something of that nature? Or Do I just need to get an X-cal?

Sure you can just have a tune shop flash the computer....... with your SCT Xcal.

And I thought when tune right on the xcal 3 its better then xcal 2. There is one old x - lvc member that can tune xcal and say xcal3 is the way to go.

There's nothing wrong with an X3, now. The early ones had issues, but they've upgraded the firmware.

As far as tunes go, both the 2 and 3 do the same thing, which is to download the tune to the car's PCM.

How much is a x3?

About four hundred bucks brand new!! I have found them on mustang forums for about two hundred though! Used and new!!!

I am telling you guys, get an X2. Even if you have the revised version of the X3 it still has issues that are undesirable.

There is NO reason NOT to get an xcal2 for a Mark VIII, the only reason to every use an X3 is on the newer cars that can't work with the 2...

Yeah I would get an Xcal 2 if I was getting one! I really need one so that I can turn off the EGR crap in my tune. I just cant afford one with all of the money I have dished out just to get it running, now there are still issues that are probably going to cost more money! I think I either have a cracked head, Blown head gasket, or the hose underneath the intake is leaking. So that is where my Xcal money will go to very soon!!! Just as soon as I get my money that I have coming to me though, I will be buying about ten Xcal's to go with my ten Mark Viii's I will be buying!!! I got a few gifts I will be purchasing for a few people also!!! If it was'nt for those people I would'nt have gotten my car to where it is now! (atleast driveable)lol!
