I want to get a set of underdrive pulleys from scp.com and i was wondering since i have three amplifiers, will i need tor upgrade my alternator to a higher output model because of the lower rpms on the serpentine belt?

I was under the impression that if you go with underdrive pulleys that you would need the higher amp alt at lower RPMs as the underdrive would lower the RPMs to the stock unit...
A 3g alt I think it was called is what you need to look for. its either 3g or g3 im not sure exactly.
good luck and please let me know how you make out with them.

Dont do underdrives with a large system.

I have a small system and an underdrive crank pulley. At night with the AC on and sitting at idle for 10 minutes and the system can only just keep up. If I turn up the stereo then the lights dim and I get a check traction controll warning.

I think i read that somewhere on here, coulndt find much by searching.
i think ill take tophers advice and just put them on and see what happens.
if i kill the alternator....o well it has 220k+ on it anyway

i think laser just saved me a whole new thread with the traction control issue!

i have underdrives and run a large 6 channel kicker amp in the trunk and if i am at idle i will get a tiny dimming in my cluster and headlights but i usually never turn it up loud, the stock pulley on my alt and the underdrive pulley only measured about 3 thousandths difference from each other, with the naked eye they looked identicle, only different colors, i wouldnt worry about.

my 2 amps make my system dim bad! and thats with the big three ,and 2 batteries! 3000 plus watts will drain your power .

well most sane people who just want some decent tunes dont need 3000 watts in their daily driver!

I have underdrives, 2000 watts roughly and two 1.0 farad caps and an optima battery. The voltmeter on the caps runs down to 11.2 when I idle for a long time and the bass won't hit sometimes. I have no dimming or anything.

The 3G is the upgrade for the Mark VII usually gotten cheaply from a Taurus. I believe the one in the VIII is a 4G and you can buy upgraded ones (not cheap) but I don't think there are any upgrades that can be pulled off of another vehicle that will fit. They are expensive but this place sells alternators up to 260 amps.

to be completely honest with you, the power gain is minimal and it affects the electrical on a car that already has way to much going on..

Just my opinion.

after reading some of these replies, i think i will save some money and find another way to add some power.

let me get this right ,you modify the car to make it quicker, faster etc and then you put a hundred pounds of stereo components in the car and slow it back down? every hundred pounds you take out of the car gives you about a tenth in the1/4 mile .those pulleys wont make up for it ,maybe a blower...................................
