Vibration Nightmare

im having the same problem with mine, i have a 2006 and i replaced the original tires with goodyear eagle's and between 62-68 i still have the vibration sometimes. took it to ford, and they balanced it but it didnt fix it completely.

GOODYEAR TIRES???? those tires jus seem like they suck already lol. I work at a goodyear and when we put the tires away, they jus seem like they have such a hard compound. But then again I may be gettin Dunlop Sig. Sports for the 20's

Yeah, its pretty frustrating.

Dunlop is made by Goodyear if I remember right. I would strongly urge you to run in fear of these Dunlops. I'm sure there are good sets out there but, I haven't been able to get anyone to stand behind mine since I started having problems. I'm just going to cut my losses and replace them with a different brand.

Got a set of Bridgestone Turanza Serenity's going on in the morning. I'll report how it goes. Anyone want a low mileage set of Dunlops for cheap? :D

I put the dunlop sport signatures in the 245/45 17s on mine last year. Two of them failed road force balancing. They were balanced as best as could be done and miraculously, they were vibration-free. I just pulled my snows off last week and put the dunlops back on (they stay on the 2000 sport 17 in rims year round) and they are still very nice. Sorry to hear about your issues with them. Good luck with the stones.

The Bridgestones appear to have solved the problem. I'm still getting some vibration through the steering wheel but it doesn't seem to be very rhythmic. It's probably just normal reaction to the road surface. If I feel something I don't like when I drive up to Omaha this weekend I'll have them look at it again.

It's great to have my car back :burnout: :D

i'm betting that will work out fine. those are nice tires.

i don't know why people that have nothing to contribute write in this forum.

either way, let us know.

i got mine re-balanced by the lincoln dealer and now have no noise or vibration, i like the goodyears and how they handle in the rain, no complaints from me anymore

I had to have it rebalanced a few more times but eventually got it all out. Dunlops FTMFL, but to their credit they did take them back and I got a prorated refund which is more than fair.

U like goodyears? Cool. I hate my rears (they were goodyears) in all weather. Maybe its cuz they were used and made in 07. It was too easy to break the tires loose (which was fun). I work for a goodyear and half the 80% of Þhe tires that we put on, goodyear, kelly, and dunlop, are not as round as they should be, which is also another reason I don't like their tires. They usually fail the road force or are really close to failing

I didn't realize I already posted most of the same ish I jus posted, on page one. My bad lol

FWIW my car has had a wheel shimmy since I bought it (39k miles) and I was just under it putting new brake pads on it (now has 60k). I couldn't find anything that was noticeably worn or loose. I also just put new summer tires on it. It's still there when running my winter wheels & tires on it but just to be sure I verified that the wheels are straight and true with no excessive runout.

Like others have experienced, the vibration seems to vary from day to day but currently it's not anything more than an annoyance so I'm not going to start replacing anything just yet.
If I had to start, it would probably be the ball-joints even though they seem to be good and tight.

When you replaced your pads did you replace or turn your rotors as well? I actually just had an issue with heat cracking in my front rotors (drilled) that set off an awful vibration through the whole car. Mostly in the wheel but also could be felt in the accelerator. Not suggesting that your rotors are cracked, but scaling and such over time could throw them out of balance a bit which results in much the same BS as an out of balance wheel. Who knew?

They are the O.E. rotors and I didn't replace them as the run-out was not bad at all.
You do make some good points though and there was some noticeable scaling on the edges.
In my cars case, I don't the rotors are the cause or that it is a wheel balance issue because it will come and go with what seems to be no rhyme or reason. It's almost as if there is a harmonic frequency issue at work.

Went to meet my wife for lunch today. So I jump on the highway and I’m cruising along about 75 or so and the good ole vibration is there for the whole 10 minute ride. Then after lunch, I jumped back on highway and it’s dead smooth…with no vibration.

This to me is what is so frustrating about this whole situation. :Bang

Once the heat builds up in parts, they can expand and close the gap that was causing the rattle.

I have noticed on cooler days my rattles are alot more noticeable. Finding which part is the toughest thing... I have ben under there countless times looking for anything, any sign.

I agree and that situation has crossed my mind. But doesn't it seem that if that was the case, it would would have gone away by the end of the 10 minute ride?

Then after the car sat at the restaurant for 45 minutes cooling down (which I will admit, isn't that long of a cool down period) it was not there.

Since it does seem to be so intermittingly there or not there, I'll guess I'll start keeping a log of when it happens and see if there is a pattern of some sort that plays out.

My car is the opposite cold days she rides like a beast! Hot days rattles like ...yeah

tie rod ends (all 6) smoothed my ride out which i never would have thought.
i think its the way the road is crowned that makes vibrations "appear" some times and not others.
a year ago i did new rotors and refaced the mount surface of the wheel and that helped a little too.
My wheels and tires are far from perfect (have a little runout and not perfectly concentric) but they balanced them out pretty good (not even road force balance). Even with some of the choppy tire wear from the worn tie rod ends, and slight out of round tires (put them on the back), it is smooth.
