Is this on your 93?

Don't think first gens have any blend door issues.
Pull the havc out and take a look I guess.
 
check your vac lines under the hood on top of plenum. bet you find a bad one.
 
check the vacuum line that runs across the intake manifold, check the vauum line that runs to the canister under the pass front fender, also try the search function
 
Just what he said right above! Black canister kinda up in the fender and it could be the one that goes across the manifold. If neither, it could have came loose from behind the EATC unit itself on the back side. I doubt it though.
 
Also check the black vacuum line going to the vacuum cluster behind the glove box, mine was loose there, just drop glove box down and it's in the top left area in there
 
If none of those are the issue, try switching to the floor. If it will blow air on the floor you probably have a vacuum line off of the actuator that is under left side of the dash near the gas pedal. Look up in that area, I believe it is a yellow vacuum line, kinda hard to see. I've had at least 2 cars with that issue.

.........wow so many things wrong with this.................
the default is defrost (like he has) not the floor. if any vac is lost all fords default to defrost so the windshield wont fog up or anything.

like posted above check the small black vac line running from the center of the intake to the pass fender, if thats not broken pull the eatc and check for vac on the center hose (with eng running of course) if no vac there follow it back to the canister in the pass fender, if you do have vac at the back of the eatc then either the leak is between eatc and the vac motor or the motor itself or the slim chance the eatc went out
 
I've looked around for vacuum leaks too, and not found any, but would stepping on the gas and having it go slowly to defrost then back again once the gas is let up be from a vacuum leak too ya'll think?

that sounds like someone bypassed the vacuum canister in the fender. with the throttle open the eng vaccum drops, when it drops without the canister the eatc defaults to defrost, when vacuum returns it goes back to the previous setting
 
Hmm, I wonder if I hit something when I was in there doing the air suspension compressor :(

its in the back of the fender near the hinge, ive also seen them leak just enough so when the throttle is depressed it will switch
 
I wasn't in that area, though did have trouble getting the liner back in. I'll pop it out again and see...
 
The point I was trying to make is if it will blow air out of the floor vent, then you don't have an issue with your source vacuum or connector at the back of climate control. If it won't switch to the floor then yes you need to start at the beginning of your vacuum source. It would just save time and effort if it does switch. As for the other guy's problem, there is a 1 way check valve in the line going to the vacuum canister. It is near the receiver/dryer or behind passenger front strut area. That's what I would check first.

went out and looked under the hood and there it was a broken vac line at the manifold. So i just cut off the bad part and reattached the line. Now everything is working again. It also fixed my idle problem and my check engine light. Thanks to everybody that replied.:)
 
Kewl, easy fixes are always nice :) I need to go out and look at mine now, I'm hoping it's the same thing...
 
I can't find the leak in mine, tested the check valves I could find too with my pump :( What a pita...
