A co-worker had one, he really liked it, but had a lot of problems and it was really expensive to repair.

They are crap. I kinda liked them when they came out cause of all the neat gadgets but they are just so slow and expensive to repair. Had a customer that needed a new windshield and it was almost $2200

I have a 2001 and bought it with about 70,000 miles (it has 110,000 now) almost 4 years ago-the 4.0 'shortstar' is a great engine (it was used in the Indy series races) , and other than replacing plugs, rear coil pack, and O2 sensors, it has been trouble free. Not as quick as my 96 Mark, but it is a stock low 15's second vehicle and mine is rattle free, easy to get parts for (unlike my 96 Mark-I have stockpiled 3-ECM's, 3-VCRM's, 3 sets of IMRC's since they are year specific for a 96).

Many Caddy parts interchange with the Aurora, and I can always find what I need in the junkyards. It is my wife's 'driver' and she does 40 miles a day, five days a week of city driving (stop and go, expressways/ramps) and it doesn't leak anything, has never left her stranded and is comfortable, fast and beautiful-just have to take care of it. like any other car.

Like my 96 Mark, I have a Field Service Manual, and you need it because it is not easy to work on or get info about (like a Mark). There is a couple of good forums for these cars also, so you can always get ideas on how to solve issues. My Mark came with the usual PITA issues: crappy headlights, air ride issues, parts that are hard (or almost impossible) to repair/replace (IAC, O2 sensors)-items that are easy to get to on an Olds. If you find a good example and it is in decent price, you would not go wrong buying one IMO. It DOES drive with the wrong set of wheels, but that is actually nice in bad weather, as the traction control on these cars actually is very good and it is great in bad weather/snow.

Never any trans issues either...the 4T80E is considered a very stout FWD tranny, it needs to be serviced like any other trans. I did service it when I bought it, and added a 24,000 GVW cooler, no issues whatsoever:rolleyes:

You think the first gens trans are :q:q:q:q, pic one of those up and you will know how lucky we are, those have more things wrong with it than aids 10 minutes after a snort of coke

my buddy has one of them, i cant stand all the cheap plastic on the interior, which is all cracked. aside from that the car is ok, had to change a starter for him that was interesting(under the intake manifold), but it was fairly easy. About a year ago i was at the local junkyard and they had all the clunkers there, and there was a blk/blk aurora with 48k miles and it had a mint black interior, i was debating gutting it because it was just to nice to go the shredder, but i had nowhere to keep it.

I don't know a lot about Gen I Aurora's, but the interior on a Gen 2 Aurora (2001-2004) is comparable to a Gen 2 Mark-

I always considered the Aurora the GM equivalent to a Mark with the exception of FWD (ugh)-but, it is a nimble, well built car, smooth and comfortable with decent power. My understanding of the first Gen is that they were a little large, not as refined as the Gen 2. They are similar in that they both have a cult following (i.e. Mark VIII). If getting a car that has somewhat complicated systems and has been taken reasonable care of since new does not intimidate you, and you are able to keep up with required maintenance/issues, I personally see no difference.

As an owner of a Mark, who understands and cares for it you can cope with the concept of preserving a special and unique car-and if you drove my Aurora, or saw it, you'd agree, it is a great car. Like Marks, there are thousands of beaters out there and drivers who do not know or CARE about how special these cars are-that is a shame. Mine are in my garage right now, side-by-side, and I can guarantee that any car-dude who saw either would be hard-pressed to decide which to drive first.

Noticed I said: ''always competed''

Didn't say still competes.

Obviously Lincoln are crap now. Ford's fault for not taking the brand seriously enough.

Although some models are still worthy equivalents. (Navigator vs Escalade, for example)

What.

GM's direct competitor to the Mark VIII would have been the Eldorado.
It was the Riviera
You must be trippin' because it most certainly was not!

Lincoln has always competed directly against Cadillac, NOT Buick!
It was the Buick.

Yeah cause a twin turbo AWD Lincoln sux. Dont matter that it beat the E500, 540i, Quatro Porte and Jag for 0-60, 1/4 mile and on a road course... well the BMW won on the road course by 1 second.

Yeah, Lincoln sux.

Not even worth my time.

*shakes head in disbelief*
