I have these BFG g-Force KDW T/A tires that I've had for like 9 years. They have been stored in my shed. I only have 3 cause one went flat and was destroyed trying to get to a gas station. Can I still use them or would they be too old?

i know they say you shouldn't use tires over 6 years old no matter what but I have done
it many times and never a problem
but it is up to you
 
I still have to find another one. They changed the tread pattern so I don't know if I will be able to find one like them. I really need some new tires on my '98 and these were almost new when I took them off.
 
i think they'll be fine. i wouldnt test the envelope of the tires speed rating tho, just to be safe.
 
the issue i had with old tires is that they just plain sucked when it came to traction, especially in the wet,they are so damn hard at this age.
but they lasted forever,even with excessive burnouts
 
They look bad. You should send them to me for testing. :D


JK, pesonally I wouldnt use them. Old tires dont have to look dry rotted to be dry rotted. So many things can go wrong and its really not worth it. IDK why people skimp on tires so much (not saying you OP) when its one of the most important parts of your car. All the work you do to make it handle, ride, perform and accelerate better is all dependant on the ability to connect to the pavement. You have a cheap or worn or old tire and you compromise all the cars abilities.
Plus its just dangerous! Most of us push our cars kinda hard. While those 9 year old tires may be ok for 60-70 mph thwy will prolly seperate at 110mph or break a bead while tossing the car in a corner.


Thats just my .02, not saying I am right or that you will crash causing a 40 car pile up where everyone dies including the bus full of nuns with orphans cause you used an old tire mind you. :p
 
They were made the 24th week of 99 I think. The DOT code says 249 at the end. Guess I wont use them. I sure do need some tires but I don't have the money or any credit cards (had to file bankruptcy) I have some Supercoupe rims and tires but they won't fit over my cobra brakes. Guess I'll just have to run what I got until they get really bald.
 
Do NOT use them!!!! The petroleum in the tire actually evaporates over time, you will run serious risk of tread seperation from the belt

have you ever seen the bed of a p/u truck that's all bent up because it threw a tread? Now immagine your trunk/tail-lights/quarter panel ect ect destroyed....
