Neon Ballast Question...

i believe what he is talking about is one level for the taillights and one level for the brake

pics would be futile..it's a small white box, much smaller than the oem ballast..it has wires coming out of it..and a small set screw for adjusting the dim brightness level.

just trying to find out how much I can save everyone...and how much I'm paying extra to have someone slap the connector and tube wires together...the Ballasts I'm lookin' at are ranging from $13 to $30...if I'm paying $70 extra to have someone do something I am already capable of I consider myself not spending my money wisely
 
$13 - $30? Where can I get one? My '97 LSC's neon isn't working either. I'm sure it's the ballast and unfortunately, I can't afford to "pony up" a hundred bucks right now. But I sure would like to get that light working again. Thanks.

still searching for which one I need...I'm still looking for a two level brightness Ballast that'll work...
Reason why I ask for pics of the glitch ballast is to see if I had ran into them without noticing...
Another is with the three wires from our power source to the ballast connector I would like to see if the glitch ballast is the same or only have two wires...

and remember the dim level needs to be adjustable as well.

by the time you do all this legwork your going to have exceeded the 100.00 cost of the glitch ballast...depending on how much you value your time.

if your serious about this...buy a glitch ballast, then you will have all the answers in your hand.

i have one, but you'd have to come over to see it.

pulling the taillight and snapping pics, then uploading pics...at my labor rate would easily exceed the 100.00 cost of a glitch ballast:D

i'm fairly certain he is building them

which is why it takes 3 weeks from order to delivery
he builds the "to order", and doesn't keep them "in stock"
 
While I'm still unemployed I'll just have something to keep me busy and take the time to help find a cheaper solution...
 
fab up an LED replacement for the whole neon mess!
that'll keep ya busy

with the led sign controller technology you could do some cool stuff
 
hmmm...I just checked and yup...Maybe if I can get a good strip of bright white LEDs to fit behind the diffuser...
I kinda still believe that LEDs wouldn't be bright enough to light them up like the neon did though

I ordered a glitch inverter, got it within a week and took me about 2 hours to install it. Well worth the $100 in my opinion. I'd love to see something done in the LED arena for our taillight assemblies, but nobody wants to tear apart a good rear taillight it seems LOL

heres a led strip out of a 2004-ish taurus 3rd brake light. it blew the resistor, so i just jumped it and checked with a 9 volt, also found if i jump another wire i can make it brighter, dont remember exactly what i did

is there a way to recrome the inside of these? ive been told that you cant paint chrome. and it would take alot of chrome "paper". also it will be a pita opening it up and resealing it.

should i just learn to live with it? it looks pretty bad. i blacked out the tail lights so i can use all the light output i can get and i hear that the chrome makes a big difference.
 
I was playing around this chroming plastic thing years ago and I'm sure I've forgot some, but you can chrome plastic. You just need to coat it with a conductive paint first, then another coat of something else, them chrome it using electricity to adhere it to the plastic/paint.

If you seriously want to get into it, I got most of my stuff from caswell plating: http://www.caswellplating.com/

I may have some stuff laying around, so when you find what you need, give me a shout. I think I may have some conductive paint leftover.

i thought that too but i think thats wrong, i think they are bought already made, it never took more than 6 or 7 days to get one from him all the times i have bought them.
 
There is a member on this site that cut apart a rear tail light and is working on something custom as we speak :)
