Need help please...GEN II Window question

This is all that you need to do, no scan tools required.

1. Press and hold the window control switch in the UP position at the second detent until the window glass stalls into the glass top run. Once the top run is reached, hold the window control switch in the UP position at the second detent for an additional 2 seconds.

2. Test for correct window operation by performing the one-touch down and the one-touch up features.

I am still unclear about what you have replaced and what you haven't. To me, the motor is just the electric motor in a metal can with a worm gear sticking out and an electrical connector. Also to me, the part with the mechanical cables (like bicycle brake cables) is the main part of the regulator. Did you replace this part? If not, then it may well be your problem. It is often damaged when the window pops loose, because the cables try to wind on the reel without the proper tension. When they do, the cables and the reel get all scratched up and don't work so well anymore.

Joe,

I replaced the regulator assembly. I removed the motor from the old regulator and mounted it onto the new regulator. I've tried the procedure but it keeps bouncing back down once it hits the glass top run. Am I to keep holding it until it stops bouncing back? Thanks..

Roll the window all the way down manually.
Press the up button all the way down and hold it. Do not release the up button until at least two seconds after the window is all the way up and has stopped moving.

I went back to the car and tried exactly what you posted and no good. Window hits the top and then bounces back down. After about 3 tries, i can get it to stay at the top but holding the Auto UP button thereafter changes nothing. Attached is a pic that shows how far DOWN the window rolls. I'm outta ideas at this point. Do I need to disconnect the motor from the regulator, plug the motor back in, and run it in the down position until it stops? and then mount it back to the regulator. It just seems like it's stopping too soon or something.

I took mine apart once, (of course I tested it with the switches just plugged in, before the door panel was re-installed), relocated the motor, so it was way closer to being all the way down, then the procedure works.

Old post but wanted to explain a bit more. The motor can self adjust to a certain extent like joegr said BUT there are limits. So if the window won't go all the way up or down or keeps bouncing back it needs to be re-clocked. Hook the motor by itself to the P/W switch. The run it all the way up. Now you know the position the motor is in and that's all the way up.

Then before you attach the motor to the regulator. Make sure the window is in the fully up position. Mate the two parts. Now everything is in synch and any small differences can be handled by the recalibration procedure joegr posted.

I just put my new reg in today. Took the old one out and removed the motor. Put the new reg in with the old motor on. Started car and everything was perfect, no adjustments needed. Auto up went all the way up and auto down went all the way down.

Lucky? Lol.

Just so everyone knows this

You CAN buy just the plastic clips that cause all the trouble. These clips tend to shatter with age. Look on ebay, there is a guy that sells replacement clips for around $5 each. They ship from overseas, so it takes a few days to get them. I ordered for front doors on my 01V6, they are exact fit. slip out the old one slip in the new, you're good to go! No need to replace anything else.

That wasn't the case on my driver side. The cable was knotted on the collector spindle, it also had broke clips. My passenger side needs the new clips which I'm replacing shortly and ordering them from ebay.

I also have a window project in mind that I want to try for the windows.

Well for me...

I tried that eBay source for rear window clips last year and they were NOT an exact fit, they were too narrow and the plastic was more brittle than the originals. I couldn't install the one on the right rear at all. Are your fronts installed and working?

I did the ebay overseas thing about 1.5 years ago. Time to do it the right way this time. Who knows if the Autozone or Ford parts come with that two peace (plug / clip) that attaches the window into the plastic holder? I don't even know what this part looks like because it was missing. See pic for where this part goes.
