Finally converted to coils

I like my air ride. It adds to the Mark VIII's uniqueness. But I can totally understand the desire to switch to coils. I've actually thought about it myself. Especially after replacing my front air spring/shocks three times on my '96 in the past 10 years. But the job is so freakin' easy, I don't mind doing it. It's the cost of the parts that hurts. Anyway, congrats on the coil conversion. You'll certainly have fewer suspension problems.

while you might be happy, I dont think your Kmember is loving the lowered coil springs too much..lol

What do you keep dragging your K member on?
That cant be making a cool sound..

actually I have not hit a single bump since i lowered it, This was damage done from the previous owner for driving it with all the air bags on the floor. This is my second mark I have owned and I have never hit anything with them lowered.

He bought them from me. I bought them from a guy from utah who taught me how to do the swap. They were on his 95 for 4,000 miles than his 16 year old son wrapped it around a pole. They were on my 93 for about 3,500 miles than an old lady jacked up on heart meds plowed head on into it while it was parked in front of my house. I could have sworn they were either suspension techniques, spring tech, or sprint. All I do know for sure is that they are linear, not progressive, they rode wonderfully, and they were the perfect stance on my lincoln. Best modification I ever did. Now that car is getting stripped down and the motor is getting put in my 97 thunderbird. So Mannie which method did you use for the upper rear mounts?

I used the snow flake caps, they work great and make no noise.

You can see "old" and "new" damage..rusty old stuff might be front when the air ride died, but those new shiny scratches aren't from a year ago.

your right those shiny new scratches are new, they were from putting the on the Tow trailer that took me 2hrs because of the air ride being shot when I bought. I towed the car from Southern Cali to Southern Nevada. But for only paying 1k for the car I wasn't complaining specially since I have only dropped around 1200 more to get it to were is at now. I already have the tokico shocks that I bought from laser just have not had time to install them I usually work around 60 to 70 hrs a week and go to school part time and with 2 kids and a Wife time is a precious commodity.

how is that kmember so scratched up and that exhaust is unscathed!? I suggest if you live in the NE with a lowered car raising it up because your exhaust is going to get shredded.

The old exhaust was scratched and bent the new exhaust just got installed on thursday. I live in las vegas and only drive the car 10 miles a day and I alternate between this and my sports bike.

i havent looked into suspension much so sorry if i missed something obvious.

where can you get the 1.5 inch lowering kit? ive found plenty of the conversion kits but none with the lowering.

also whats the benefits of getting a kit with the rear shocks? do we have stock rear shocks that like to go bad? like i said, i havent looked into suspension yet.

you've had the car HOW LONG, and haven't bothered to look under the rear?

it's fairly obvious if you take the time to kneel down and actually stick your head under there.

my front end with the lowered kit has had a prob.....granted i dont have stock wheels.. i was on a road trip, hit a bump and the inner plastic fender lining completely broke, shattered into the wheel... luckily i was able to pull over quickly and remove what was left before it cuased further damage. On a good note i was able to jimmy rig protection to go in front of the fuel line/filter for the remainder of the trip...sucks haveing that happen with a car full of friends.

haha nope:p but im gonna take that one as yes we have rear shocks. i kinda figured that but thought i'd ask.

i wouldve looked last night before posting but its over at a buddies house.

anywho... so who makes the lowering kit? i see alot of guys have them but they never say where they got them. or they got the kit from a friend.

Don't know if you can, Eddie stopped selling them.
Send him a e-mail maybe he can get them.

Give him sometime to get back to you.....you will then have the correct answer.

i heard they stopped making them. i was looking for a rear lowered kit and all the componies said they werent making them anymore....not sure on the fronts though..

They stop making the 1.5" kit, but I when I was looking for mine I found out that If you buy the 1.5 coils for a T-Bird and the Shocks for the TBird, you can actually make your own kit. I was fortunate enough to buy mine kit used from a friend.

guess i'll just stick with stock height when i decide to convert.not a big issue. i live out in the boondocks so it probably wouldn't have been a great idea anyway.

thanks

You should do a search here on the forum Lasersvt posted a thread on a tokico setup that was relatively cheap to do and accomplished the 1.2 or 1.5 drop.
