Denny's vs Dynotech

Whats the main difference between the two? Both are 4" aluminum, denny's is $100 more.

Only thing i found by looking at thier sites is denny's balances them at a higher RPM.

Anyone know what size the MMC shafts came in and if they are laying around anywhere? From searching looks like the mmc is better.
 
I wish i could find one of those. Anyone know what size the stock shaft is?
 
Denny's has a far better balancing machine and does do higher rpms (What you want for sure) and used less weight to balance from what Ive seen. Plus I have had nothing but incredible xperiences with Denny's for over the 12 years he has been making us these shafts. Welllll worth the extra $100.00.
 
I would try it.

I wish I balanced mine to see if it helped.
I'm good until about 110 MPH with 4.10s

Geno you ever balance a 93 shaft at a good shop?

So i just went and dug the ladder out of the snow, braved the ice, climbed into the top of my garage and dug out my 93 DS.

It's 3.5" diameter. Is the stock shaft a different alloy then the aftermarket ones? Both denny and dynotech offer a 3.5 shaft, now dynotech recommends not to use it when doing a gear swap, just wondering why anyone would buy one unless its a different metal (lighter/stiffer?)

I just called a buddy who is in the drive shaft biz.
According to him to get one balanced should cost around 60 bucks.
You don't have to spin a shaft fast to see if its out of balance.

The 3.5 aftermarket shafts might have thicker wall which will help some.
and yep as we know a 4 inch dia. shaft is best.

If I get half a chance I will try to balance my 93 shaft just to see how much if any it helps.

Nice. I talked to my ds guy and it's 80 bucks to balance plus I gotta buy new u joints. So at that rate plus the 100 I paid for it Im gonna get a new ds..
 
I paid $200 for a Dynotech 4" shaft that is going on my car next week. The guy only used it for about 3000 miles before his engine went out. The thing looks brand new.

Stock gears.

And I really can't say yet.

My tires are regularly flat spotted from being parked, and I've only taken it up to about 110 since this shaft has been in.

If you can wait a summer I can let you know, though, and maybe save you some cash. Just depends where it's at on your priority list. Right now I wouldn't feel right referring you. Shop is in Mason City Iowa. They outsource the balance to a shop in Cedar Rapids, and welds look good, though.
 
Make sure they are indeed giving you the right prices from each place...
When I went looking for a DS, I talked to both Denny's and Dynotech.
I already had a '93 that was balanced locally and it wasn't cutting it.
No one was making the 3.5" MMC anymore, so I got a price that was a bit over $100 cheaper from Dynotech for a supposed 4" shaft. I was happier overall talking to the guys at Denny's as they were alot more open in giving me information on balancing, install, etc, plus they are about an hour drive away each way from me. But, I still figured I'd go with the Dynotech as they were cheaper but it ended up when I talked to them again for the order they said the price was for a 3.5" shaft. They knew who they were talking to, and after talking to the place for a week+ pulling a stunt like that isn't cool. I then ordered from Denny's as their service is great!
 
I'm happy with the 4" Dynotech I got last year. No vibes @ well over 125 MPH with 4.10's. :cool:

I have an original DynoTech aluminum Metal Matrix Composite 3-1/2" driveshaft. I didn't think the vibes with the 4.10s and the stock '93 driveshaft was that bad until I got the MMC shaft. It was an immense improvement. So much so I snapped up a slightly used one for the '96 with no hesitation.

I'm sure Denny's is a fine product but I doubt either 6061 T-6 shaft from Denny's or DynoTech is what the original MMC shafts were.

Unfortunately, made from "Unobtainium", and no longer available. :(
