Time for a new tranny

I have sold two perfectly good running 93-97 4r70w's for $75...

Um...I'll send you a PM.

Hey, is there a list somewhere of all the trans that I can put in my Mark, i.e. Mustang, Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and what years I can use?

As far as I know, any of the 4r70w's will work but some may need wiring harness modifications as in re-pinned. You mainly want to shoot for the 98 and up because most internals were all updated to much better specs and for reliability.

You guys have to remember, I'm not a mech, I'm a driver. And I live in Louisville.

I had a local mechanic swap my trans in, put a new TC on and do a few other things for $400. Granted he was working on the side and it took him about 5 days... but I bet you could find someone to do it for you for less than you might think.

Yes but with 124K miles and $425, I wouldn't mess with that one. Way too pricey for that many miles being on it. You should be able to get one local for $300 or under and 40 to 60K less miles. Check craigslist also. Mine was from a 98 Mark for $250 and brought to me with 60K on it. A local yard should have something good that you don't have to pay $125 shipping for.

Thanks guys, thanks Nut.

I'm going to flush it first. This might buy me a couple of months or more. I can search in peace if it works, even temporarily.

Flushing it will be the kiss of death. Don't do it. The clutches will freak on the slippery new fluid and die.

Here Fossten...

www.car-part.com

I found several transmission in your area for CHEAP...

What did you search under?
I searched non police crown vic zip 40201 and found one in Jonesboro with 40 k for $350

Also the write up on the much hated .org the torque converter clutch solenoid needs to be swaped
Correct?
So more is needed then the repin.....right?

Ya I do....I can't open his web site at work.
The filter has it blocked for some odd reason.... maybe the name lol ..kracker :p

He pretty much swapped out all electrical from one and put into the 98 transmission to not do a pinout and he said it has worked fine for him. It is a good write up but I think I would rather just re-pin the harness and have all updated internals, electrical and mechanical.

Thanks KK, I just found a 98 with 88K miles here in Louisville for $175. Very cool.

$175 is hard to beat. A lot better than $425 with 124K on it.

KK, what's the average price for front and rear seals? I don't want to take a chance on either of mine leaking when I put it in. I know the gaskets I need are just under $3.00 each for when I do the J-Mod, I just don't trust the seals. My 94 trans might have problems but one thing it does not do is leak, anywhere. Oil pan leaks though lol.

Don't know to be honest... but I'd call Max and get OEM ones... I only use OEM seals in places where engines or transmissions have to be removed to replace them...

Got the car back, trans running smooth now. If it buys me a few months I'm golden. Thanks everybody for the help.

I just pulled my 98 trans out. I'm installing a 6060 6speed in mine the trans has 113K miles on it has had the fluid replaced at 30k intervals. no problems with it. $300 plus shipping from ATL.
