ok here is my problem. Whenever I close my driver side door, i hear a loud rattle. Now this only happens when my window is at least 3/4 way open to being full open.

I have pulled the door panels off and felt the bottom of the windowm mechanism is able to swing. so i figure this is what is hitting the metal frame. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how do i fix it?

take the door panel off, and towards the bottom left corner as you stare where the door panel was, you will see a huge washer with a small 8 mm bolt through it, remove it, then take the bracket out of the door that this bolt went through, this bracket has a C channel attached to it with a felt liner, it runs up and down right around where the door lock rod is, the back edge of the glass rides in this to keep it in place and quiet. the C channel is spot welded to the bracket that bolts to the door, usually over time the spot welds let go and the C channel falls inside the door and thats all you hear when you close it. take the channel and the bracket out, put the bracket back on the channel and pop rivet it back together so it never comes apart again. i hope you understand this, i have fixed so many of them but never thought to take pics, its a very common problem.

Anyone else out there happen to take pics?

Thanks for that 'write-up' Jamie, I've been wondering about this as well.

Thanks ALot!!

hey thanks jamie for that. I will try to look at the door panel when i get some time off from work. if anyone has any pics please post. If not when i figure out how to do this i will take pics with my cam phone. Now this is said as i don't have a rivet gun and don't know where 2 get one. Jamie can you post a pic of the rivet gun and the rivet you spoke of? thanks

Jamie-yu the man! can you tell this guy takes these things apart (probably in his sleep)?

Mark owners on here should appreciate the wealth of knowledge and experience, not to mention the courtesy you always extend to others on here who just need help or ideas-

I am going out to my garage and fix that %#$@& rattle now...

had this happen myself, I put two steel rivets in it, and the put a small pan head bolt and nut on it too. Took a grinder and ground down the head of the bolt and then placed the striping back in the channel. Haven't had a problem since.

My passengers side is the same way, been sitting in the door panel since I bought it. I had a problem with my door lock making a horrible noise and I ended up throwing it in the gahbage!

thanks for this post. i had this very problem this weekend. went to harbor frieght tools picked up a 5 dollar rivit gun and 10 minutes later it was fixed.

i had a similar issue... but mine was due to the fact my window seal rotted out and was missing a lot of its metal and rubber, not to mention the chrome trim piece was off as well. i just replaced the large metal and rubber seal and its fixed, i left the lil one inside the door alone...but i do have a spare if mine goes out.

mines is doing the same exact thing, im going to follow jamies instructions and see what I can do...Ill also try to take some pics of the whole process.

Good tip, who's got pics?

Yes I found this channel in the bottom of my drivers door to but couldn't figure out where it went. It looks a lot like the channel that goes in the back of the door window frame that the door glass slides up in. Pics would be great.

I just looked at my window channel that goes in the door and I can see how it attached. Do we drill a hole thru the felt out thru the two holes that show from the outside of the channel? Where does the clip on the top end slide into at the top of the channel? I could not see anything for it to attach to. The former owner wrapped a bunch of tape around the part of the door lock inside there, I guess thinking that was causing the rattle, I'd call it a bump or clunk sound myself. But maybe it rattles when you drive the car and its down in the bottom of the door. Any idea how long or short a rivet one can use?
