ok guys all of a sudden for the past few days, Ive been getting the horrilbe check air ride suspension. It only happens when Im going 60. Im guessing that the suspension is not venting for some particular reason. So thats why Im consulting with you air ride gurus. Can you guys explain whats going on? My front air bags are brand new they were just installed about 2 weeks ago.

Or just replace the vent solenoid on the compressor. Of course finding a good spare is impossible.

I am surprised how little work is needed to rebuild these compressors. I am taking mine apart this week since I have not run it all summer. Dryer broke off in spring - again.

they are fairly simple inside.
that bastard solenoid thing is a "one off" "one of a kind" piece of crap though, unfortunately.

I have a solenoid that worked 2 years ago. The connecting rod for the compressor spun off the drive crank... You're better off getting an oem NEW compressor or an american air compressor.

+1

hey if that solenoid worked 2 years ago, it probably still works today.
Hang on to it.

Changing the solenoid is very very easy.
If I were you I'd shoot it with a shot of wd-40 to keep it alive and happy.

Marv, it should be the box right.... wait, the Gen 1's & the Gen 2's are a little diferrent, I learned it the hard way. I purchased a complete Gen 2 compressor assembly & some things were a bit diferrent including plugs. Ask the Gen 2 guys... U know what works for me? I ride with the switch OFF. I only turn it on once every 3 weeks with the front jacked up to assist the front bags to come back up to level since they both have a very slow leak. Once the compressor stops, I turn off the switch in the trunk & I'm good to go. :) Yes, I know I'm cheating but it works... Afterall, I'm unemployed here so it'll have to suffice for now! ;)

Doesn't driving with the air suspension switch OFF turn off the EVO steering, making it default to full lightness? I think it does...

The solenoid INSIDE the compressor is right between the scrotum and the prostate.

it's a squareish box with two wires "white and blue" going inside..the white and blue wires are 2 of the 4 wires on the compressor harness.
Two go to the electric compressor motor, the other two go to the soleniod.

hope this helps

its weird b/c my car airs up fine with no problems, and the compressor isnt making any loud noises, i dont know why this darn solinoid have to mess up at this moment, crap!!!

:Bang

Dude... Don't get frustrated bro. It's the price we pay for having the coolest cars out there. :headbang: Remember, this was a $40,000 car back in the 90's so we must expect minor issues here & there if they're worth $2-$3000.00 now.

sorry dudes i just had to let out some steam, its just frusturating when you fix one thing and then 2 of them break.

a week ago or so my car started making crazy creaking noises going slow in parking lots, the air suspension pump seems like its not strong enough to pump the car up (now driving with it off) then it stopped creaking but of course the steering wheel started shaking, so i sell my 88 bronco two days ago and finally get some extra loot figuring i can take care of the Mark VIII no problems...to find a puncture in my sidewall this morning  and since im running 245/50/r16 kuhmo's i have to replace two tires or buy another set of wheels, which i dont want to do either because i'm going to hubswap it...but i gotta do something.

if it aint one damn thing its another....

Im bout to just spend a stupid amount of money to make me go :D

Saleen speedstars, niche rhines, mille miglia's...where are they in my bolt pattern used when i need them

well luckily you have the "preferred method" of failure.

Meaning your vent is stuck in the CLOSED position, which believe it or not is "a good thing".

atleast this way you CAN put a spider valve on the car and go on with your life.

If the vent had failed in the OPEN position, then you lose the compressor head seal and a spider valve wont help unless you can "plug" the hole in the compressor head.

The vent solenoid is the achilles heel of the air ride system.
due to the nature and design of the system the vent solenoid is exposed to alot of moisture because the air going INTO the system has to pass back OUT of the system THRU the vent solenoid....

The air ride systems original design makes the dryer a "double pass" dryer, the air going IN and OUT pass thru the dryer {that is bad) and the vent solenoid (which is also bad)

When you put a spider valve on the system, ONLY the compressed INCOMMING air is going thru the dryer.

The outgoing air AND moisture is vented before the DRYER which goes along way in prolonging the life of the dryer and the compressor and the entire system as a whole.

most all mark 8 owners either HAVE or WILL experience what you are right now. Many of us understand that frustration... no worries bro.
