so i raced a guy coming back too st louis from the ozarks a couple of weeks ago...heres how it went down...i was riding about 75...2 cars blew by me like i was standing still...so i punched it and followed...they were rollin about 120...then the back car got over and let me pass...i then pulled beside the first car...a 03 lexus es300, i think?...he looked at me and smiled and punched it...so i did the same...from 120 till 140 we were neck and neck...at 140 he couldnt get his too go any faster and i walked away from him....i looked down and i was pegged, at 160...i slowed down after that and let both pass...i followed for another 10 min going about 95...they got off at rest stop and i slowed back to the speed limit...after about an hour i realized my gps records your top speed...so i looked it up...and there it was !158!mph!WOW!i will never do that again...i set a new personal land speed record
 
Nice, now if some of us could just get rid of these damned top speed limiters.......
 
Yeah, that's what I would like to know. I am doubtfull of the poster's accuracy.
Got any pics of that GPS unit in your LS?
 
Whoa! Fastest I've been in my 01Sport was ~105. Haven't abused the 06 just yet (max ~88mph). Might try to go faster once I get the Valentine One hardwired in :P
 
I think i might have to call BS on that one. From his pictures it looks like a 1st gen and even if he was able to disable the limiter i highly doubt it unless its got nitrous or some other serious mods to add HP. To be neck and neck at 140 and then "walk" on him up to 158, not happening. Unless you had some seriously staight road you were driving on then it would take a fair amount of distance to travel from 140 to 158 in a LS.
 
0-140 in one mile with my '02 LS V-8 Sport. Stock 0-128 same car. Another mile with my car???

My point is at 140 mph your traveling at about 1 mile/per 25 seconds. How long do you realistically think it would take to go from 140 to 158 mph with a 252 hp engine in the LS if it were possible at all? Unless your on an extremely long straight road i just dont see his claim adding up. I'm not good with all the math but with the weight of the LS and 252 HP/265 ft-lbs there has to be a way to calculate the rate of acceleration and top speed. Again if its a stock LS then no way is it going 158.
 
Maybe in a location near hurricane bill?? Downhill with a 100mph tailwind....:D
 
I know we have many threads on this already....

Gen1 LS V8
- non-sport is limited to 133
- sport (or sport package added) no limit but tops out at 147~ish. there is lots of rpm left on the dial it just hits a torque-vs-resistance wall

Gen2 LS V8 - all limited to 133

different mods will alter this 'slightly', differences in wheels without recalibration will cause a speedo error that may add miles.

Pic of gps won't help, under over passes on the highway mine would read (all bs aside) 158 everytime it reaquired the sats it dropped. Probably 20 times I checked max speed and it would be 121 or 158. That was doing 70-75. I got the external antenna now and it stays dead on. What brand gps unit you have? I'm not saying what I had just incase.
 
i got mine to 125-130 once. it felt like i had plenty more power, just not enough..... manliness?

GET ONE!! Mine saved me at least 4 tickets last vacation. Too bad for the MB, BMW, 300C, Chebby and another car which I don't remember the make. The arrows are invaluable!! And for only $399?? Such a deal as it's been $399 for at least 4 years!

88 is fast enough if you have the flux capacitor option. (Not sure if it was standard on the 06 model).

I know it. 400 bucks is relatively inexpensive.

0-140 takes 37.xxx seconds, and a measured mile (Maxton). I believe I can get to 160 plus absolute top end now. A 160 mile will likely require a 200-300 shot from the NX system.

Where abouts are you on the Ozarks? What mile marker? We have a lake house in Osage Beach on the 22.5 mile marker. Osage Beach has a TON of LS', more than I have ever seen in one place!
