Howdy,

Has anyone autocrossed a Mk VIII or set it up for a more aggressive handling? I don't dodge cones but I like taking a freeway exchange aggressively and I'm debating a Mk VIII IRS for my Riviera since I know were 3 are for cheap and I'm already planning on air ride.

Thanks,

yea we took 3 mostly stock mark 8's to the autocross.
They lumped us into the RWD modified class and ran us against the likes of 1968 corvettes.
We finished 1st 2nd and 4th in class, putting the vette in third.

no suspension mods on these cars either, stone stock air ride with stock sized tires.. we kicked the CRAP out of the vette.

My drive to work was 40 miles of beautiful twisties. I hammered through them and embarresed quite a few cars that have tried to stay on my bumper. Had a Porsche 944 that couldnt hang as well and a C4 Vette and several Stangs.
These cars are large but they handle pretty damn good.

Those stangs must have been ancient or clueless on how to drive! I can take a turn at near 100mph that I can take at maybe 70mph in the Lincoln. There's not even a slight comparison in handling! The Mustang effortlessly weaves through the twisties...and I have a convertible that has more body flex too.

There are ALLOT of terriable drivers here and not to toot my own horn but I am pretty decient. Have autocrossed for years. I have also had many many stangs of all flavors. I know with my coilovers I can hang no problem with a stock Stang.
My buddies 2004 that I put in Eibach springs and he installed FLSFCs and has 315s out back tried to lose me on a road I know well. I stayed right on his bumper and through corners where his car kept stepping out the Mark was well planted.
That being said my 96 Cobra with the minor mods I did on its chasis and suspension would do circles around my Mark.

Really it boils down to the driver and knowing the car.

I'm going to take measurements to see if it'll fit without cutting the frame this weekend. My main worries right now are weight of the car (4000lbs ish dry), wheel bolt pattern (frount is 5x5in current, can be redrilled down to 5x4.75in), and possible exhaust routing due to the X-frame.

Any idea if the 4.5in hubs have enough meat to be redrilled to 4.75in?

I did it in 2001 at Fort Dix Modified V8. Slammed it to the ground, kept it in 2nd with the 4.10's and did the ole' "Stab-N-Steer"
