since i picked up my Mark last sunday ive been driving around with 2 errors the first one was low washer fluid. quick fill and its still there however after using the search feature i think i might have solved that problem. the second is the check exterior lamps. well all my lights out side work. i did notice some problems with the hid head lights. now having an LSC from 96 i thought they are the stock ones that came with the car and they might be starting to go bad. well today i finally had a chance to crack my hood and dig into it and first thing i see are aftermarket ballast.so my first thought after researching the forums was wow i wonder how they are being held in place. turns out some jackass used like some wicked hard epoxy and cacked it all over the entire back of the plug in. some people are so i dont know. anyway to my question will aftermark hid kits work correctly with with the computer or will it always trigger this error? if it is triggering the error are there any rememdies for it?

yes there is a wire feeding the lamp out module that needs to be snipped. its a brown wire with a light blue stripe. the lamp out module is inside the glove box opening on the very top. is your car black? i looked at a black 96 lsc with tan interior at happy cars on 66 st that someone did that to the hid's, just globbed goop all over the bulbs i couldnt take off fast enough when i saw it, not sure if thats the car you bought, but the one im talking about was tossed between like 3 local auction yards before it ended up at happy cars, then it sat there for almost a year for sale. bring it to me man, i'll fix the headlights for you like i mentioned!

without riggin things up either!!!!

i saw your sig too not the same car if you have black interior.

i picked it up in fort myers i know the happy cars place your talking about i drive past it every morning. i was planning on giving ya a call sometime tomorrow then i remember it was the 4th im also heading out to lkq tomorrow as well my alt is starting to act faulty so i wanted to see if they had any in the yard instead of shelling out 200 bucks for a 220amp alt. i also think there is something wrong with the kit thats installed as well they just dont appear to bright. or maybe im expecting more out of HID. when i hit the switch they flash a super pure bright white. then dim out almost to nothing then come back as a little fadded pools on the road. by the way how long does it take ya to do the head light resto. is that something that can be done same day or am i having to go a night or two with out head lights ?

jamie any recommandations for HID kits out there? i am in dier need for a nre driver HID bulb but there all above 115 for one

It almost sounds like your diffusers were removed when someone stuck the other HID bulbs in. The start up usually does flash bright at first and then from dim to bright within about 5 to 7 seconds. I'm not sure exactly what you see ahead of you but I can show you who I bought from and what I see ahead of me.

Mine are 10,000K but most go with the 4300K or 6000K but the whole kit only costs $60.00 with free shipping. Just click on the link and in his search box to the left, type in Mark VIII and you'll come across them. Been running mine for over 3 months now without any problems.

nice. mine are like 3 pools of light in front of me on the ground. hardly any distance a head of the car. thanks for the link. i think ill let jaime take car of it for me since hes pretty much local and i need the stuff cleared up anyway.

Yes, Jamie will hook you up right and you won't be disappointed with his finished work. I was only able to just buy the HID kit and install because my housings were in like new condition with no yellowing or burnt chrome backing. Again, the kit puts out hardly any heat at all and a much better light. Once you have them aimed right which does take some time but not hard to do, you'll be happy. What you see in my pics were before really getting a good aiming with them. Now I have them up a bit further and even and I still have not been flashed by anyone.

Madison City Police here in AL. have seen them many times and never said one word. One of the Huntsville City Police officers that I know which is a Lt. said he would like to have some of them installed on his take home car. He's head of the narcotics drug task force and is really serious about getting them and letting me install them for him. If I ever get to it, I'll post some pics of it.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide on the color choice. Once Jamie gets done with them and you have them installed, you'll be amazed at what you can actually see. Post us some pics when you get it all done.

@ Jamie, don't put those purple ones off on him lol. I hope you let those go with the green Mark.:D

terry you are way behind the times dude lol i sold the green mark about 3 months ago. i only used those hid's cause they were given to me, looking at the front of the car i didnt like them, but looking through the windshield they worked awesome. oh well, long gone now though!

im curious if i snip the wire to disable the xtern lamp warning will that ruin it for all of them or is that just the head light lead ?

I wouldn't cut the wire, not yet at least. Wait until you get the new system and see if it works OK.

My 98 has aftermarket HID's but the message still works as it should.

My 94 has 96 HID's and I don't mind resetting the message, when I turn my parking lights on, it still checks them.

id like to keep the warning system in tact and have it function as it should. of course i dont know how bad the previous owners butchered the car

I still haven't snipped my wire either but with the parking lights only, I never get the message, only with the headlights on. Only takes a second to clear away the message but when someone rides with you that don't know anything about what's going on, they always ask. I'll get around to it one day. I would rather have nice clean light ahead of me with a message instead of yellow dingy halogens.

+1

No error message on my 97 with an aftermarket HID kit.

how are your guys lights wired up. it looks like they spliced right into the line on mine. from the tech article i saw it also says to cut the wire as well. i wonder what the real deal here is.

Is the exterior lamp warning the same on a Gen 2, I have a guy stopping by this afternoon with a 98; he replaced all the bulbs with led bulbs. He has load resistors on the turn signal locations so everything functions as it should. He gets the lamp warning with park/brake lights, putting load resistors on everything would kinda defeat the purpose of haveing lighting that uses less power.
Can anyone confirm the box/wire color is in the same location?
