Cobra intake manifold

Long Story short.


A cobra intake is going to net you very little on a stock VIII. Nitrous injection by design does not rely on increased airflow through the heads or intake. The nitrous carries more oxygen per molecule than the atmosphere, which is why you get the increased power output.

If you are running at a minimum 3.73's and a stall you may like the result. For a 2 ton car with a sluggish automatic and anemic gearing. The cobra intake will KILL your lowend power.

Also a Cobra intake veteran.
 
Never argued that NOs is not a power adder. ;)

As far as the intake tube. It does... Barely. It's tight enough that over time, the hood insulating material will lightly polish a small 3/4 inch strip on the intake. Cut the insulating material that rubs, and you're good to go. I, personally, never did cut the material.
 
I took off the hood insulation a long time ago so i'm not worried about that but I went with the JLT RAI to save some money. I'm not really happy with the quality of product for the amount I paid for it but it does the job and has no restrictions... and I already have 4.30 gears and have an Edge 3500 stall converter sitting in the garage. Frogman, do you have an Edge converter as well? What stall speed did you go with and how do you like it?

It was just a terminology mix up, I meant to say my Mark VIII is not all motor, it has nitrous, versus it being not naturally aspirated... big deal...
 
Well here's a dumb question out of left field? What about to those of us that like to dress up the Mark with Cobra accents? Do they sell a cover for the original Mark VIII manifold that looks something like the Cobra intake manifold?
 
Not that I know of.

I noticed a difference in the seat of the pants after my swap. Big difference actually, but its not a stock mark. It is NA, but not stock.

Well worth the $100 I spent on it, or whatever it was, dont remember but it was CHEAP!
 
Hey Chadly, did you have to plug up any holes on the bottom of your 96 intake?

Frogman that Cobra intake looks great... I wish mine was all shiny and powdercoated....
 
With my cobra intake change I didn't see any real gains at the track. I however think it was worth the effort. If nothing else it looks cool. NA or
N2O no better times with the cobra intake. 98 be careful with the JLT intake I had clearance issues with the band clamp rubbing into the under side of the hood. I had to move the screw to the side of the tube NOT on the TOP. I was also not happy with th equality of the PVC intake tube. It works.
If you have to choice which to do first PUT the converter IN. BIG ET gains.

Frogman I like the red paint. Thats what I did with my stock intake. Looks Nice.

Cobra intake is almost on, got the stock fuel rail out, i'm just waiting on some adapter fuel line fittings to come in, as well as the IAC and PCV tubes... Sean, if you can get some engine bay pics that would be awesome... also do you still have the insulation underneath the hood or did you take that off?
 
Serge I dont think th epics would be much help to you. The only issues I Had were caused by the mark fuel rails. Alittle bend and cut here and it was good. The cruise controll box under th edrivers fender will need to be moved closer. I dont plan on getting that working. I like the soft pedal much better and never use it any ways.

As for the hood i do have the insulation on but the clamp rubbed thru that and into the hood. I noticed a fine silver powder on the intake tube and just rotated the screw to the side FIXED.

As for the IAC I used SEMI black air lines and two 90 degree bends to connect to the intake tube. It was quick.
 
I didnt have to plug any holes, but it was from a 98 cobra. There are holes in the bottom to mount the IMRC controller, but they dont go all the way through.

My cruise control is not hooked up right now anyway because I had it disconnected for the recall and never went in to get it reconnected cause I never use it anyway. Do you still have to move the cruise control box anyway? I'm converting to the Cobra fuel rail so I can use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator... also are you using the DPFE sensor or did you disconnect that part of the cobra intake?
 
I dont have the CC connected or moved. Right now I have the cable tucked out of the way. I'm not sure what the DPFE is. No EGR or PVC hooked up on my set up.

Ran two nitrous passes this week. 12.90 and 12.80 best @110 mph. Not too bad with the heat and humidity. Had about 900 bottle pressure.

That's fast! What 60 foot times? Also, you had the IMRC's deleted even on your gen 2 manifold right?
 
Yes The IMRC deleted on the stock intake. 60' was slow 2.0 The first run I didnt turn off the OD and it screwed it up at the top end. The second pass I spun most of the way thru second. The back end was going side to side. That was some excitment.
