I've been looking at various threads of the types of set ups for intakes. A number of people wrote that running a tube from the front bumper to the filter would be pointless because the air getting into the engine as it's running is as cool as outside. These threads also had things about fabricating your own heatshield, maybe the K&N intake didnt come with a heatshield back then, the threads were 07 and 08. I thought maybe those people ment to say that adding a heat shiled would do better than running the tubes from the bumper. Well i was debating on running the cone filter down to the bumper but decided to leave it in the engine. It came with a heatshile and my next question, will running a tube from the bumper up to the filter do anything or not? this is includin the heatshield that came with the typhoon CAI.

I used a rain gutter divert from Lowe's about $9.00. I have cleaned up the installation since photo's. At first used flexible dryer vent tube but I thought it was too flimsy. As you can see I have a heat shield and I like to think it helps bring in cooler air then what is under the hood, for the money it doesn't hurt.

I don't know if you read it wrong or wrote it wrong or maybe the info was wrong, but you WANT the air to be as cold as possible coming into the engine. The point of the heat shield is to also keep the hot air in the engine bay from being sucked in. One of the CAI threads is about making a heat shield or sealed box and they have have a chart of the amount of HP you gain at each temperature(colder = more HP!).

Now kind of a side question. In that thread I mention they make a box and then try to get the hood to seal the top. Why don't they just make a top for it so that is it completely sealed? At any rate I'll be fabricating my own once I get my new engine in.

oh yeah sorry, 04 v8. FALECF4, i dont want to make the air as cold as outside, somebody posted that there was nop point of running a tube up to the filter for cooler air because when the car runs it gets cool air but at stops it heats up.

i saw one person got the stock air box and placed it in the bumper. i was thinking of either doing this or going to home depot and getting a few tubes there.

Ok, what would be the point of placing the air box in the bumper then if you are getting plenty of cold air when moving? The point of running the tube down to the opening in the bumper is to get the freshest, coldest air possible. True you may get colder air while moving but not as cold as if you are actually taking it from right in front of the car, which also helps force it into the intake, "ram air".

Sorry for the extremely technical drawing, but this is kinda what I want to do with mine, I think this is what you mean FALEC?

professional drawing for sure. Im hopefully going to be order one early this summer and I will take a trip to Lowes to see what I can find to make the box etc.

Did you draw a diagram of gay sex?

What the f*ck is with your conscious?

Your f*cking acting stupid again and its no wonder people really started flaming you again.

Andrizzle, I would just run extra pipe from the MAFS down to behind the bumper and mount the filter to it.

I've been bored and ilfaded....couldn't help but be a smartass and a flea on your behind for the past week :P

I'm not trying to flame you or be a complete dick because I don't think you're a bad dude but seriously?!?!?!? This $hit you type is not funny, you pollute valuable threads with this garbage, you waste your own time typing the bs and other people's goddamn time when they have to read them. DO you like being the most hated person on here? DO you like having everyone pissed off at you constantly? DO you want everyone to just block you so that no one can see the pointless $hit you post? I understand that you don't know an oil filter from a gas cap but there's other threads if you're going to post this stuff. There are people on here that are actually trying to learn about their cars and different things they can do to modify them. I joined LVC in 06, I was 16 and had only had my LS for a few months and while I had a basic knowledge of cars I had NO idea how to do almost anything on the LS on my own. But you know what I did? When I had a question I searched old threads and if I couldn't find them I posted a thread with my question. Slowly but surely I've learned more and more about these cars, and I've saved thousands of dollars and gained invaluable knowledge doing things I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. You on the other hand have decided to come on here and pollute valuable threads with totally irrelevant $hit. Do you realize that you have more posts than people that have been on here for years? If you want to post that stuff, there is a general discussion forum. You remind me of the kid in elementary who would always shout random stuff out thinking it was funny but everyone just hated him because of it. If you have a question about your car or if you know an answer to someone's question feel free to ask or answer it otherwise please stay out of these threads. If you wanna go post useless $hit I'm sure there's plenty of body building guido forums out there.

You're into body building guidos?

You might wanna stick to the topic at hand and help the kid with a good means of airflow from the bumper to his intake tube (or filter).

Post something releable please, LOL

He's right T-Dub. I mean look at the wealth of releable  info he posted in post #10. Cant top that.

So Werner are you saying just forget the box in the engine compartment? And stick the filter down by the bumper? The way i had it in my mind was having the filter still in the engine compartment would keep more dust/rocks/debris/water out of direct contact. Kind of like just a hose to scoop the air and push it into the filter?

Yes.

Its still going to get stuff sucked up with your idea.

gcwimers idea is really the only way you wont get things sucked up to the filter like water and all.

How ever my idea and your idea are slightly more effective.

LOL. I thought his idea WAS the same as g's....

We might all be a little lost. From what I read the guys running a CAI with a heat shield or an enclosed box with another pipe running down to the lower grille were having great results. Plus with that setup they don't have to worry about water or debris getting into the air box at all.

Yea that's what I was thinking. Keeping the filter where it is, but extending a hose down to the grill. That hose will then lead into the air filter box that is completely enclosed. Usually people only have the heatshield and use the hood to seal. What i was talking about was creating a full box for the air filter and not worry about sealing with hood.

just leave the filter in the engine bay..putting it down in the bumper will not make any difference that you can feel so why risk putting the filter behind the front bumper and sucking up any water or trash and causing you to destroy your motor...its a Luxury Sedan not a race car...just my 2 cents

No, gcwimmers has a tube going into the engine bay and stopping. Its not connected to a box or the filter itself so anything that does go up it most likely will get lost in the engine bay. From the diagram shown yours has a box with a hose attached that flows down to the bumper so its all sealed of from the engine bay.

I dont know of anyone with a closed box and a hose running from it. Myself, Sully and Pektel talked about trying to use the stock box that way but no one ever did it. Everyone has either a shield or the pipe work runs from the MAFS to behind the bumper and thats where the filter sits. Or, like gcwimmers.

It prevents heat soak!

This coming from someone that swore his car was faster than mine for some reason?

no offense.
