so I do a new fuel pump this weekend and the car is GREAT!!! Back to normal....i put about 100 miles on it on sunday cruising around listening the the nice rumble.......so i'm driving to work today and it just shuts off as i'm driving it....i turn the key and it just cranks.....i don't hear the fuel pump working.....so i turn the key off and on about 10-15 times then i hear the pump turn on....car starts right up and drives fine....anoter little bit it does it again.....anyone have this problem???

my car this morning did something similar. i was going to work and it cut off, but in a wierd way. it cut off like if i was driving a manual car and left it in gear while braking for a stop light. kinda stuttered and cut off. it started right back up and i went on my way. if anyone knows what thisis precursor to the help would be appreciated. i dont want the car to leave me stranded.

Sounds like the fuel pump wasnt the problem.
Bring a fuel pressure gage with you, when it dies and wont start check pressure at the rail.

This Mark I own has stranded me more times then I care to remember.
I wouldnt own a Mark without back up wheels.

its too late now. love for this car has prevented us from escaping the monitary black hole. it has sucked us in!!!!!!!!

Catmech, your's might be a crank sensor, they are famous for their sensitivity-I replaced mine because, in the past two years, it would, for no rhyme or reason, not start, or it would, out of the blue, just run rough, or stall out, and it would take it's time and start again and run as if it never happened. It happened maybe 6 times total in a two year period, and I read enough on here to think maybe the crank sensor would be happier if I just retired it and put in a new one. Since the replacement (about 8 months ago) I have had no problems. Just a guess, it's only $30...

Rich, that's weird that you drove it 100 miles with no issues, then it died. Has to be electrical-oh, and I agree totally with the Mark NOT being a DD, it is just a fun car, you have to have a driver-these things WILL let you down and have to be parked until you have time/money/inclination/information to fix.

i was leaning that way. i was gonna replace it anyway along with the cam sensor. i have to up my schedule. thanks for the input.

Before you replace anything find the problem.
When it wont start pull a plug check for spark.
If you have spark check fuel pressure....bring a gage with you there cheap.

I once had a MG miget....it stranded me more then the Mark has....Martin :)
Dam brit POS ! ;)
Was a fun car....gocart for the street.

i was going to replace all of the problem parts for these cars anyway. with the exception of the vcrm.im gonna keep one of those for a spare inside the car.

If you don't know the problem your just throwing parts at it hoping one will fix it.
Find the problem first.

Funny you should say that. My grandfather had a Midget and an MGB GT. Both have since been given up, but he still has the 1.8 litre BMC engine (and other random parts) for the GT. I agree, Brit cars are junk. Only Brit car I'd rock would be a pre-Russian  TVR.

nah, for now my mark is my daily......besides i don't want to use the grand prix....which I may add I did use for 2 years everyday and NEVER had one problem!!!

try to find an intermittant sensor problem. i know from experience. you will not find it until it fails completely. there are only a hand full of things that could be causing this. most of them are 30 dollars or less. no big deal. i just thought anyone on here might have had a similar prob and could possibly guide me where to look.
