Last night while driving my 94 on a short 15 mile trip. The car ran fine. No problems then with about 2 miles left OD went out. Nothing...

Now my first thought was my Performance Chip. So I turned the car off and switched it to another mode. Same thing... then I tried turning the switch off. Same thing.

So I had to limp the car home where I could look at it better. Pulling out the tranny dip sick I noticed the fluid smelled burnt. Oh $#!+...

So here I sit. From what I know burnt smelling tranny fluid is not good.

Bad news.. with the holiday season coming up I don't believe I'm going to do any tranny work right now, I maybe looking for a new tranny about tax time if I need a new tranny which I think I may be needing.

So Oh $#!+....

My transmission done the same exact thing. I had OD only when it was cold and after it warmed up, the OD would quit. I also had burnt smelling fluid but all that had to be done was to drop the pan, clean off the magnet, change out the 3-4 shift solenoid which is as simple as 2 minutes once you get the pan off. It's only held on with two bolts and it plugs in to a small harness. The part ran me right at $55.00 and I have had OD ever since. If you only drain the pans fluid, you'll need about 6 quarts of Mercon V but if you want to take it all the way, drain the torque converter and have all fresh fluid. I think it's about 12 to 14 quarts. I would say with $65.00, you'll be fixed up, unless you drain all the fluid completely. Obviously you would want to change the filter too. It was cheap also and easy to change. The hardest part of the whole job was removing the pan and putting it back on. I done this in 2005 and have had no problems since until I had to change the 1-2 shift accumulator piston and springs. Also another easy job and very much recommended to do, so that you'll have the updated version because it will become a problem later on. Two springs, (purple and blue) and the piston ran me about $60 from Ford.

Tranny was worked on back in 2005 after I sold it to Scott9050... All accumulator were changed.

I'm just fustrated that this happened just before Christmas so funds are low and I can't do the job until later. Also, why don't these problems happen when it's warmer out. Just what I want to do is drop a tranny laying on the ground in 10 to 20 degree weather... It was bad enough changing a fuel filter when it was 15 degrees out.

I made it 200mi or so limping along the interstate in 2nd gear at 55-60mph in my old 94; still managed 18mpg doing it.

Accumulators were changed but was the 3-4 shift solenoid? I think that's the problem. The 1-2 and 2-3 shift accumulators might be fine but if the 3-4 shift solenoid has went bad, you're OD will be gone.

Remove the chip to rule it out. Takes little time to do. I doubt it would be the problem though as you would have other issues. Also - burnt fluid.

Rich,

I have a trans you can have for free. I'm not sure of the condition, but it moved the car before I parted it out. I am comming home for thanksgiving next week and can throw it in the trunk.

Let me know.

If you want to bring it ... I'll figure out how to get it from Beardstown ....

Might be a temp solution until I put my money together to get what I want.

Poor Rich

Mine is starting to slip a little it seems. I get the traction control light but my tires are still solid on the pavement. I've seen the RPMs climb a couple times, but no real acceleration. I'm babying mine at the moment. Push come to shove, I'll quickly slap the 96 together and drive it until I have the time and money to fix the 97.

That has to bend the :q:q:q:q out of the spare tire cover... mine got bent from a set of brake rotors... a trans weighs way more than rotors do.

If you swap wanna sell you burnt one ? the One you did all those 4 to 2 shifts :shifty:

I might be in the market for a core.

Believe it or not it will fit in a way that does put alot of weight on that cover. I just transported one a few months ago.:)

Ah hell, just put it in the backseat and buckle it in! The leather will just wipe clean! OR, you could put a blanket on the roof, toss it up there, get some twine and run it down around through the doors to tie it down. Remember, run it through the doors and not through the windows or you won't be able to open the doors when you're done and have to climb in the Mark General Lee style.

Oh and make sure you take pics and post them up here!!!!!!!!!!!
