Needed to get your attention...

Oh sorry Frogman.. I didn't Forget to search LOL... but didn't have success also was hard to use a simplified search to get better results...

So I'm relying on someone's good memory or the culprit to speak up.

One of you found an new solution to cleaning the headlight lenses...

I need to use it on my daughter's Mustang.. What was the new substance that you found?

Hard work.... lol

I've just used varying grits of sandpaper, and a buff ball for my drill with a few different compounds... I use PlastX to keep them looking new.

wet sand them and buff them with a variable speed buffer and mothers chrome polish. yes i said chrome polish, try it, you'll see. its cheap and fast and they'll look brand new.

the 3m kit is a decent one for the most part.

I found the sandpaper to be "too abrasive".

1500 grit is what I thought it was in the kit.

I wound up getting some 3000 and some 4000 wet sand and it worked ALOT better.

on a non hid lens you might get by with the 1500/2000ish
on a clear housing you definately want to go with a finer grit.

on my second gen housings I just claybarred the crap out of them and waxed em afterwards

We sell a mopar headlight restorer at the dealership and it actually has a chemical that fills the scratches and is self leveling. no polishing required after sanding. The best part is you dont have to ever do it again, unlike wetsanding and buffing. Good product. Runs about $20 for the kit.

i have never had to redo any lights i ever sanded and buffed, everyone claims doing it the way i do they will just turn yellow again, sure, maybe in 10 years, but thats the same amount of time it took for them to get nasty in the first place. there is no avoiding florida sun, it beats down on everything, and no headlights i ever di turned yellow again. im not saying the 3m kits are no good, but i'll stick with my way, it works and its cheap.

I have never personally used the restorer kit. I have just seen the end result. Turned out good. I have wetsanded and buffed 3 sets of mark headlights also. Im just saying the restorer might be worth a try.

I confess, it was me. The kit worked exceptionally well for me. There are other ways to do this, Jamie's way is good, how can you argue with his results. For me, without any knowledge of what I was doing, the kit was perfect. The instructions were clear and concise and the different grades of sandpaper and polishing compounds were just what I needed to get through the clear-coat residue, minor chips and sand blasting effects from years of use here on the sandy/salty roads of NH.
Just take your time with it and don't get overly aggressive with the sanding and you can have the stang in night driving condition again.

After you polish the lenses you can rattle can a coat of clear on them and that'll HELP with the UV contamination.

that is.. if you can operate a rattle can with no drips or runs ect.

I would try Meguiars Plast X with a Porter Cable or similar buffer or a Drill. If you need something with a lil more bite then I would try a polish like Megiuars M 105 (ADS sells small size for a great price). If M105 cleans it up I would then finish with Plast X. If M105 does not do the trick then wet sand, M105 and fisnish with Plast X.
The Wolfgang kit from Autogeek.net gets great reviews I have not used it myself.

just shake the can in that fast and furious masterbating type motion and you'll be fine...

"tip" shake the can twice as long as you would masterbate.

Are you sure 30 seconds will be long enough to get the paint all mixed up properly?
