I know the first question you are probably asking is "WHY?!?!?!?!" Well there are a few things that happened. First and foremost is that I have owned the LS for about 3 years, 1.5 of those years it was nitrous fed and then for a year it had the Turbo system on it. While I love the LS and especially what those modifications did to it I felt the itch to move onto something new to have fun with and build mods for. Enter the 2009 Pontiac G8GT. With the way this car is in stock form and the somewhat underdeveloped potential it has, let alone the GM pricing that is going on this month I couldn't pass it up. These cars are sharp. It basically has an upgraded version of the GM LS2 engine, though it is technically called the L76. It is a 6.0 V8 that puts out 361hp and 385tq in stock form in extremely detuned fashion thanks to being tuned for 87oct fuel from the factory. They usually do the 1/4 mile in about 13.6 seconds in stock form. The funny thing I had to chuckle about when I first bought the car earlier this week was that my LS felt quite a bit faster than this car. While the G8 GT is punchier off the line thanks to the big V8 the LS would easily take it's azz right after that because of it being turbocharged. That is all set to change of course. The plan for modding the G8 GT is two different phases.

Phase 1:

KBX CAI
KBX HP Tuners Tune
Magnaflow exhaust
100wetshot nitrous (possibly 125)

This series of mods should have the car into the 12's before spray and very deep 12's on the spray and possibly 11's if I can launch it right. The nitrous is really just a temporary speed fix until I have the time to build the TT system for the car. I had an extra N20 system laying around so why not? ;)

Phase 2:

Custom Twin Turbo system by yours truly.

While I am still a FoMoCo guy through and through I felt that it has finally become necessary to officially expand into the GM lineup as well. I will still remain an active member here because I have always had a soft spot for the Lincoln LS and the mods that can be done to it with just a little bit of free thinking. So those of you needing tech advice for the LS can still feel free to PM me with your questions.

Another great thing about the new car is that it still is able to get better gas mileage than what I got with the LS. Something you would not think would happen with an engine that 2 more liters worth of displacement.

Well without any further delay here are some pictures of it. While the car doesn't look bad in the pictures they really don't do it enough justice until you see it in person. The blue paint is actually darker in person. Let me know what ya think.

Nice, That will be my next car, but trying to hold out for the the GXP

nice, I like the G8s a lot, they drive great, the interior not so much... but for that price you most likely won't get a better driving new car.

love it!! That was going to be my next choice, but I want AWD and turbo instead.

A tune alone will not shave off alomost 2 seconds on that car. You might know your :q:q:q:q about cars but you are dreaming on this one. You need more than just a tune for 12's

a 12.9 is only .7 seconds away from the stock 13.6 1/4 mile. The LS can even accomplish a .7 gain with intake and tune.

I don't see it happening. And an Ls is not gonna run in the 12's with a tune and intake

are you selling ls???

I put the LS back to stock and traded it in.

Where did I ever say that just a tune alone would get this car into the 12's??? With a CAI, exhaust, and tune these cars have seen 12's and that was what I was talking about. These cars are very very detuned from the factory which is why you pick up usually between 30-40rwhp from a tune alone. The same cannot be said for 95% of other naturally aspirated gasoline vehicles. Most n/a gas vehicles will only pickup 15-20rwhp from a tune alone. Lincoln ave I REALLY suggest that you read what was posted before replying. No one ever said that the G8GT would run 12's with just a tune and no one ever said that the LS would run 12's with an intake and tune. Are you sure that you are reading the same thread?

So do parts for the LSx's work for these? Like cams and such? That sucks they detuned the LS2 for it though. It can't all be from running 87 right?

Please go straight to turbo and skip the bottle haha. And keep the exterior 100% stock so you have a crazy sleeper.

I hope this car is more successful than the GTO. I already see more of these on the road. I'm glad GM is still running the LS series too and wavering because of gas and the economy. I always hated the GTP's so I'm glad to see and even better muscle car from them.

This is an LSx motor so yes there are parts that will swap over. Being that the engine in this car is a 4th Gen LSx with AFM the cam will not be the same due to the special profile it had to be ground to.

This engine is much better than the LS2 in many ways. First off it has the L92 heads which are pretty much baby LS7 heads (C6 Z06), and an LS3 intake manifold. The engine will be able to support around 600hp naturally aspirated. They have the 6L80 C6 Corvette A6 transmission. The stocker fuel system will support 450-475rwhp and with an injector upgrade will support mid 500's at the tires. These cars have tons of potential. Until people start really encountering them on the street in modded form they will make for VERY formidable sleepers. They also have a modular exhaust which makes for a very easy install of a low mounted hidden twin turbo system for these cars.

While the 87 octane stocker tune doesn't account for the entire difference between the 6.0 LS2 GTO engine's 400 hp and this ones 361 it does account for allot of it. The factory tuning for these cars is quite conservative which is why people are getting roughly 35rwhp gain from a tune alone. Anyone who knows tuning or has tuned cars knows that those kind of gains on an N/A stock vehicle are unheard of with just a tune. At first I had to see it to believe it. With as super quiet as the stock exhaust is I am sure it is not exactly helping things either.

I think that these cars will turn out to be more successful than the GTO was. First off they look much better to most people out there based upon many various polls. They are quite roomy so the average person that just wants a nice sedan/sports car will like these. The aftermarket already has allot of mods available for these cars in a very short time. There is a decent amount of buzz regarding these cars on allot of the LSx oriented forums.

I've seen a thread about a TT setup on one of these, ~550rwhp IIRC. Should be fun.

The G8 gonna be a lot easier to mod and a lot faster at the end.

Did you sell your turbo setup to someone?

Nice looking car. So we know it can go fast and get there quickly. What is the skinny on the handling? How does it compare to your LS? Have GM actually figured out how to make some of their cars handle? I'm sure that by just going to RWD, it is a win for the handling dept. Please post your handling observations. The MPG gains sound typical of GM. I'm still wondering how they get so much out of a gallon of fuel. Good luck with the build-up.

I just put the whole system up for sale on the "Auto Parts For Sale" subforum HERE Someone is going to get one hell of a deal.

The handling in the G8GT is just as good if not better than the LS was. It pulls a higher G on the skidpad and also does the slalom quite a bit quicker. The G8GT has 50/50 weight distro and suspension that is VERY close to what the BMW's have. It is definitely a refined vehicle when it comes to the whole package. The G8 GT's are nothing even remotely close to the rest of the Pontiac "G" lineup except for the G in the name. These cars are actually built by the GM Holden division in Australia and have been going under the "Commodore" moniker for some years now. Pontiac should have given this car a different name because the other G series cars are nowhere close to the same league. I think the name will hurt it a little bit until people get firsthand experience with the car.

Well thanks to you, I told my mom about this car and so I picked her up and we went out and test drove it since she's in the market. Hell of a car for $33k.

Nice man, I drove one awhile ago, excellent car, did not feel as fast as my SS but of course one is stock and one isn't, handled great but not as great as my lil SS but I have stuff done there. I would love to have one but not a great idea with gas the way it is, already having a couple projects.

Nice choice in color aswell, I was thinking I was gonna see either a white or black one in the pics. As for the car being more popular than the GTO, no doubt, its not a replacement for that, it replaces a crappy car, the GP.

Cannot wait to see the progress man, good luck and welcome to the GM side line.

Grat's on the car IlLS great pick, one of my soldier's wants to buy that when we get back state side. Nice to see you have your hater fan base already too lol
