... by a 335i. All I have to say is, DAMN, those suckers are quick. A 300hp twin turbo inline six in a car that size should have been a pretty close match, but I guess I thought wrong.

I was on the highway and he was on the on ramp, I moved over to let him in and he took off. I tried to keep up and couldn't. Caught up a bit later and he saw me again, we staged, my passenger rolled down the window and they yelled to go when ready. Dropped it into 2nd and took off again, for about a second and he went flying past me again.

Followed them to a local fuel & snack stop. Kid was cool but mommy & daddy bought him the car. He claimed it was chipped, and I figured a tuner on a factory forced induction car like that could easily mean close to 400hp.

Oh yeah, and kids, street racing is bad :)

Bmw

Is you VIII stock? Ive laid a couple of those to rest, not by much, but solid.

After picking my sister up from work at 2am yesterday I had to just test it out, see if my overheating/low oil pressure problem was worked out. Well it was.

We saw a group of 5 cars parked in front of the mall she works at, all getting on the highway together, revving and burning out at the stop light, among them were

infinity g35
2 door alero, all riced out w/ decals and all
bmw 3 series w/ exhaust
cadillac eldorado which looked stock
chrysler 300m, 20s, but i doubt any performance mods

Well they all started racing (which was very unsafe, 5 cars on a 3 lane highway) and I didn't want to get involved so I followed (90-100mph) until the 300 and eldorado gave up i guess, so I caught up to the other 3. The alero was cooked at 110, and we strolled right by, then the bmw slowed down and let us pass, and we took over the g35 at about the 125 mark....which is when it went south

i saw flashing lights in my rearview....

...but it was the bmw flashing his highbeams at me as he proceeded to hand me my ass on a platter, easily passing us beeping his horn and flashing(we were still in the 120 mph range)

Those BMWs can MOVE!

It was really cool, and this all happened in a 4 mile semi straightaway on 95

All looks good w/ the oil pressure and cooling system as well, I never went over M on the gauge.

That was a post by me before I got the chip and (i think) before the intake. Based on what I've heard and read, it must've been a twin turbo that smoked me.

Just for fun I tried to pull away from an Mercedes E56 AMG from a straightaway where we were both cruising around 85. It was one of those things where your both going the same speed so you just glance over, when I glanced over he (older business professional type) gave me the look of "go ahead kid, try"....

...So I tried, and failed miserably. Those things can fly as well. He slowed down and grinned and we drove casually 10 miles until I got off the highway

you sure? a stock 335 coupe with just a chip alone will run 12's.

Exactly. Most of my mods are in the suspension and brakes, and I do have a tune/exhaust/intake, but essentially yes it's stock.

You sure you've run against a twin turbo 3 Series? Unless your ride is also forced induction, you haven't been laying them to rest :)

I run flat 13's aftermarket cams, port polish, modified IMRC's, 90MM MAF, BK throttle body, aftermarket coils, custom tune, under drive pulleys, this and that, 3500 stall baumann stage 4 kit, 3.73 gears exhaust.

Hmmmmm........

hmmm..... money money money! MONEY MONEY MONEY GET MONEY.... 40K car vs 3k car... hmmmmmmm big question.

MONEY MONEY MONEY

or run heavy nitrous like i do, its like playing the lottery! but with better ods. i cant afford a brand new twin turbo bimmer but for 4g's ill take my chances, which have been in my favor! but i know im taking a chance....

Ive been working on piecing together remote twin turbo's, but I am hesitant because the motor is fresh, but for the most part stock. I have Total seal rings on stock polished turbo coated stock pistons, stress relieved stock rods with ARP bolts, and stock Cobra crank. I have really thought about a 150 wet shot, but hate the idea of refilling the bottle all the time, and this is my wifes car and I have serious concerns about her conservative use of the NOS.
I look at it this way the car was purchased for 2500 its a 97 black on black LSC and needed paint. All the engine trans and drive line parts cost be about 3500 more, allot of part I had or purchased used except the cams.
So for under 6K I have a solid good looking dependable 13 sec car for the wife to play with or spend 50 to 70K on a exotic.....

Is it just me or is anyone else turned on by the fact that a lady apparently cannot control herself when it comes to using nitrous??? ;)

I have never met you or your wife but based upon that above quote I think you have yourself a keeper.

Ah, ok. Didn't realize you had all the goodies - especially the gears could have made a huge difference. Looks like you'd do fine against a 335, but I would still express serious doubts about running up against a tuned one.

How did you modify the IMRCs and what was involved with a cam swap? Who did your tuning?

The IMRC's plates have all been removed knife edged and polished and have a half inch slot cut from the bottom of the plate, the screws are cut down and flattened also. The computer is set to open them at 2700 instead 3000.
The cams are not the easiest but if the engines out of the car its not bad. The cams are a split intake duration set, and truthfully they where not worth the money or hassle, dont get me wrong they made a difference and I like the slight lope at idle, but if I had it to do again I would go a different route.
I do my own tuning.

I have pretty hefty grind cams, stall and 3.73 gears, so with the split intake pattern on the cams and the 3K plus stall, a little better air flow and early opening would be a good thing. Its hard to tell what actual impact it had, because I did all the work at once.

The 335i's are quick stock, and surprising with just a tune... until you spin those tiny turbos a little too high and they crap metal into your engine (total replacement cost of $26k in this case.)
