My New Mark

Nice acusition!

I just got my next victim to cut up.

97 opalesant blk interior with 43K miles.
it will be done the same way as my 95.

next time don't tape around the lens It is faster to just take them out
It does look great though

Faster to take them out? It took about 45 seconds to tape it off lol...

I'm going to redo both to get them to the next level, cause they still have a few scratches.

Here's what I will do when I get the right supplies:

400 on an orbital
600 on orbital
1500 by hand
2000-2500 by hand
cutting compound
plastx

The lenses look good, but they just aren't perfect yet.

So I restored the headlights last night. Started with 400 grit, then went 600, 1500, heavy cutting compound, plastx to finish them up. the buffing was done with my little buff ball on a cordless drill.

I will have to replace the drivers side headlight at some point because it has some spidercracking due to rock chips in the lens, and there is slight damage to the chrome inside.

Just wondering, does this process work for all types of these lights (exp. BMW, Chevy,, Dodge)?

Do you just use good old fashoned elbow greese?

I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work for any plastic lensed headlight. You can use power tools to speed up the process but what you see in those pics is all elbow grease.

whats a cutting compound? Is that what its called when you go buy it from a store

Just an agressive buffing compound will do. Go into an auto parts store and ask for the most agressive buffing compound they have.

The car looks aboslutley awesome in the low res pics, in person it just isn't the same. The main issues are the rock chips and scratches. The other thing that needs to be addressed asap is the peeling chrome rims.

I will be putting my set of snowflake wheels and good tires on while I have the motion spokes rechromed.

You are going to replate the 10 spokes ?
Were and how much ?
They would have to strip then replate I would think.

The only places I have found is in Cali New York and Pensylvania. The place a friend who restores cars recomended is in Cali. They will strip, copper once or twice as neccesarry, and then chrome the wheels. The cost is quite steep. I find it to be worth the money though because very few aftermarket wheels look good to me on the Mark, or at least on this Mark. I want to make it a sleeper, no 18's or other bling rims for me. I love the ten spokes and it will go well with the overal image I want the car to have if I keep them.

Here's a place that i got rims and tires cheap.

http://www.performanceplustire.com/

if you're going to spend more that 1000 beans you might as well get the whole package from them , i spent 1001.50 with shipping total and got the rims and tires ready to go aire filled and balanced (just plug and play). You can see on my mark if you check out my gallery

I just scored one of the things that I thought would be imppossible to find. I just called up the place that has the oem floor mats listed ina nother thread, unbeleivably they have an oem set of CE mats in medium grey!

I never would have thought I would have been able to get a set of CE mats, let alone nib oem ones.

I called him while he was on the phone with you. hahaha

He told me another Mark guy called lol...

I was hoping to just find a set of oem mats, I'm floored to be getting the correct CE Mats. I will post pics as soon as I get them.

I know what you mean..I looked at that place in cal before it aint cheap.
Can't seem to find the link.
10 spokes pop up now and then if you can wait.
I got a set of real good 20 spokes form Jamie out of FL
Maybe buzz him and have him keep a eye out :shifty:

The way I look at it is if I get mine rechromed they will be as perfect as they could ever be, and if I maintain them they will stay that way. I only plan on having to rechrome them once.

go with Octostars, They don't have the pealing problem...well at least mine don't.

Rear Wheel drive in the winter FTW!

I would go with octastars, but I like the ten spokes better.

So I got a little bad news when I drove my car this morning. It was the first cold morning since I've had the car, went to turn on the heat.... I'm sure you can guess where this is going.

It won't be that bad of a fix, and I'm taking ahlf the interior out to fix the sunroof drains anyways lol...
