OK guys, I've been around the block a few times with these cars but have NEVER run in to this question.

I am currently pricing parts for a 17X9 Bullitt wheel swap, But I don't want to convert to the SN-95 Bolt pattern. I can get the wheels and tires for the price I am comfortable with, but don't want to spend the 650 + extra for the hub swap.

I have come across a set of Billet hub adapters from www.gearworksmfg.com

I would put a link up but my school computer has right click options restricted. Just look for the 5X4.25 to 5X4.5 billet adapters Part #C125-5425-5450

Now, I understand that NO ONE recommends using these, but I'm tired of dumping money to modify an entire subsystem of a vehicle just to make something new work.

My question is, What offset should I look for on the wheels to negate the adapters? On all of my previous VIIIs the 17's were so close to the spindle that they would scrape on a VERY hard corner, so I want to space them out a bit anyway.

The adapters are 31.75" thick so I'm wondering what would happen if I bought a set of 0mm Offset wheels. Let me know what you think as far as offset options and what I should look for.

One other thing,


What should I do about the Hub centering? I'm not exactly sure what the VIII's Centering diameter is, I can turn my own centric rings if need be.

Can't prob help you much .. but I know positive offset means the hub mounts closer to the outside of the wheel, so, if you put hub spacers in, you definately don't want zero offset. That's like double spacing your wheels out. Zero offset is ~ center of wheel.
 
Also, brad has hub centric spacers for the mustang wheels already. Just order a set for any of his mustang wheel replicas.
 
Here is a somewhat related question. If I go with a 10 or 9 inch wheel what offset do I need. I have the hub swap but am thinking about going with bigger then 17x8

:eek: 31.75'' thick :eek: they'll only stick out about 2' from your car :D
Btw stock mustang rim offset should be pretty good with adapters.Don't you have any byddys with mustangs,so you can borrow a stock mustang wheel to check it out after you put the adapters.
 
I'm not sure about the spacers, but I've heard good things about having the new pattern drilled into the original hubs.

Battery: Who has done this? I work with a Fanuc Controlled RoboDrill CNC mill, and could do this VERY easily. Any information you could provide would be GREAT!

I saw some posts on it over on tccoa, I'll see what I can find and post up the results.
 
My friend is running Billet adapters on his 70 Mach 1 and has had no problems. Granted teh car is far fom a DD but he is running 19" wheels and does drive the car like he stole it

You should be able to do it easy on that robo drill.
Even if you just drilled the holes and hand taped them.
You can do it on a bridgeport if it has a digital readout.
I used chev bolt patteren on a nine inch redrilled the rotors I had.
I dont know why I didnt think of it before.
I think it would be better then spacers.
Find center of one hole and off you go.
What are you using to generate code for the Robo ?
I could get my Brother to draw it up in Master cam e-mail you the code. :cool:
