In a lot of case there is also injector and cat issues at work. If the car has had a miss for a while the cats get nasty and won't flow well. I have had two of three with cat issues. My 98 is real bad, they just crackle after soft driving and my 94 had holes burned out from heat. A quick look on the computer will also tell you how your injectors arw doing. Long open time equals gummed up etc. After a proper dealership cleaning for injectors and converters done they were like a new car. I strongly recomend checking injectors out on the computer to anyone buying a new Mark. Fuel mileage is great also. Just to give a real world situation. I always coast down a long steep hill near my house(in drive) My 93 would start at 40 km and reach 105-110 km. My gen two that is gummed and convertered right now will not make 90kms!!! Granted we also have a gear issue at work, the gen two has the 3:27's. The exhaust is like a frickin Jake brake right now.
