Could the VCRM do that?

I suspect that my VCRM has failed on my Mark VIII.
My fairly new radiator fan has stopped turning, after a period of providing erratic power.
My air condition is blowing hot air.

Lately, I've smelled gasoline when sitting at stop lights. I think the VCRM does control the fuel pump... is there anyway I can tie that mystery into the VCRM replacement?

....next question.

WHERE is the VCRM?
Is it the driver's wheel well? It doesn't seem to be in the engine bay, I'm not sure where to start looking.

Actually I have had some strange issues as well.

I smell gas at stop lights, my heater is cold, and my engine temp shoots up like the the themostat isnt opening.

I found it there behind the grill.
Swapped it with a used one.

Now the car won't start.

Not sure if I just installed a failed used unit, or I did something wrong. There isn't much to do, so I'm not sure where a mistake could have happened. The battery's disconnected, I'll wait for any possible codes to clear, then give it a try again before dark.

UPDATE: No luck. But when i put the old one back in, the car started.... So, luck of the draw, the replacement VRMC must be shot.

I should have that sensor from the 93 I parted out, post a pic of it and I'll hook ya up if your interested. The car ran fine before it was hit.

VCRM controls the two speed fuel pump, and the variable speed cooling fan.

yes the symptoms you are describing point TO the VCRM
sounds like the replacement was bad.. as you pointed out.

I am replacing one today on Tiffany's car... we thought her fan died.. replaced the fan.. no luck.. VCRM is the culprit.

The no start you describe also points to the VCRM, as tiffanys old car did the same thing.

all done, Tiffs car runs, fan works WALA!
20.00 junkyard VCRM did the trick.

(waves into the rafters at Mr Zee) Hey Max!

I cant hear the fan come on and Im not willing to stick my hand in the assembly, hmm.. How can I hear the fan lol

Maybe the piece of thin card trick? Gotta be better than sticking ya fingers in! Lol.

t center your hand between fan and engine,if its on you will most definatley feel the air moving, even fan is on lowest speed it moves a lot of air
