Last wednesday I go in to order new coils. I'm told they cost $42.99 apiece, and if I order it before 3pm the parts should be in on Thursday. They had one in stock so I bought that one, they ordered the other 5. So I pay for all 6 coils and purchase 6 new plugs as well. I was only throwing a code for cylinder #4 so when I got home I tried to put the one coil in that I had just bought. Wouldn't fit, so I took it back immediately. Cancelled that order, so I thought, and ordered the correct V6 parts. That was right at 3 on Wednesday, so now the parts weren't expected until last Friday.

Friday rolls around and I go back up to AutoZone. The parts were there, but they were the wrong parts. I guess the cancelled order went through anyway. So, the guy there tells me that the other order must be on the way and to come back on Saturday at 1. I Go back on Saturday and they tell me that the parts are not even on their way. And to order them on the Saturday means they wouldn't get here until yesterday, one week after I originally ordered them. They come in, and I go to pick them up. I get them, sign for it, and walk out the store. I get in my car and start to drive home. I get a call on the cell phone from a number I don't recognize, I answer and it's AutoZone calling to tell me that I have not paid for the coils yet. BULL:q:q:q:q!!! I paid for them before we ordered to wrong ones. After we ordered the correct ones, I was charged 10 dollars more. I explain that to him, calmly. He puts me on hold for about 10 minutes, while getting the manager. Someone else picks up and says thanks for holding. I ask if it's the manager and he says no and puts me back on hold to go get him.

Finally the manager picks up the phone and tells me that these parts are $5 more apiece than the ones I had paid for. At this point I'm pretty pissed, almost to the point of lighting a cigarette in my car; which I NEVER do.
I tell him that it's not my problem, and that I'm never setting foot inside that store again after the experience I had trying to order these parts and getting them a week after I ordered them. After paying more for them than I had originally been quoted.

Original Quoted Price- $43
Price Paid - $45
How much they want - $50 ($25 more than I have already paid)

Places like AutoZone, Pep Boys are good for fluids and miscellaneous crap. If you don't have a "mom & pop" type auto parts store around, order your parts from either Maxx at Five Star Ford (banner on the right of the page) or RockAuto.com

Yeah, for the DCCV that I'm about to need I'm using RockAuto. Local stealership wants almost $300 for the damn thing; RockAuto wants 160.

Thank you NYC, Those coils are p/n 2W4Z-12029-AC with a list of 76.33 each and LVC is $41.22 each. All 6 would be $247.22. There was, for a while someone else a dollar or two cheaper then me but I do not see him here anymore. I thought the "zone" was a lot cheaper than O/E and you got what you paid for according to others here on the site.

I NEVER buy parts from autozone/pepboys/etc... Always dealer parts or PARTS STORE parts, I go to autozone if I need my codes read and for cleaning accessories and lights.

Never Never buy at Autozone.. they can only be trusted for oil and cleaning supplies if that.

Maxx is great and you can't beat his prices on Ford parts... I've also used RockAuto for aftermarket and can not complain...

But remember this Autozone is for the High School crowd and that's about it.

Sorry guys, cant boycott Autozone. I have had nothing but good experiences with my local autozone. still get military discount. I have the autozone rewards card, which pays off well. there computers are easy to use. Mine lets me look up my own parts, go in the back to find what I need, etc, etc. They usually have or can find within the city what I am looking for. I often get discounts for the hell of it. And there parts are reasonably priced. Maybe the people that work at yours just arent worth a :q:q:q:q.

I had a bad coil replaced on my 04 V8 by my local mechanic.
2 weeks later another coil started misfiring. I decided to change it myself and ordered 2 coils from Advance Auto Parts on a friday afternoon and they had them by noon on saturday.
Turns out there was water in the plug hole which we figured out was from the dealership powerwashing the engine before I bought the car. Blew it out with some compressed air til it was dry.
It's been 8000 miles since I replaced it and haven't had any problems.
They're pretty easy to change and I have a spare in case another one goes.
I wouldn't recommend changing all the coils, just if they go bad, but my car had only 25,000 miles on it.
My scanner will tell me which cylinder is misfiring if a coil needs replacing.
Advance Auto seems to be a bit more compitent than Autozone and even has a special counter in the back of the store for commercial accounts.
Maybe I've been lucky but I haven't had any problems with parts from either chain in over 15 years.

On a different note, Autozone today had a dude that amazingly actually knew about old Buicks and hooked me up with the new instead of cruddy balljoint press. I also get a military discount and they are very well connected to parts suppliers but as far as stuff out of the back... I go to NAPA for everything that isn't OEM from the dealer (Maxx or GMPD) or a top shelf aftermarket stuff like Timken bearings or Moog suspension stuff for factory replacements or Energy Suspension bushings and such. I shop around a lot for stuff since I consume lots of fluids, solvents, and shop towels.

Mespock - I am newly released from the HS crowd, 3rd year at college. And, it's where my dad has always gone, so I's kinda following his steps.

Decibels - They aren't worth a :q:q:q:q, it's Arkansas = rednecks. And the computer here is what got it all messed up. They clicked the 3.0 and parts for the V8 came up too. Duralast # 1234; Visteon 1008 are for the V8, and Visteon 1004 are for the V6. The Duralast show up under both; and are cheaper so those were the original order. Then after they cancelled the Duralast order they must've ordered the 1008's, cause those are the ones that came in. Then they charged me the additional $10 when they ordered those and now that the V6 parts are here they want more money. F-Them, F-them in their stupid goat asses.
