What would a person have to do to change from a Reg. Automatic to a Select Shift Auto? Or would a Person be better off going to Manaul?
I dont know that its any better or worse it just gives you the option to select which gear you want via pushing up or down in the lever. I have the "regular" auto and would like the SST but my v6 will never be "fast" so unless one fall in my lap for an extemly low price I wont change it.
From what I read after doing a search it seems Im better off with my reg. Automatic. Right?

Take a look at this.
You don't need a pcm reflash unless you want/need to be able to select D4. The trans will still work just fine.
just curious as to what could happen if you did put it in D4 without the pcm flash?
why bother?
I have it on my car, and never use it.
You would be in 3rd. The window would also show 3rd, even though the shifter shows D4. The computer reads the shifter mechanism vertically. The non-SST shifter goes..
P
R
N
D5 D4
......3
......2
......1
The SST shifter is read:
P
R
N
D5
D4
As you can see, vertically below D5 on the non-SST shifter is 3.

o ok i see. so if you didn't do the flash and bumped the 'new' sst shifter over to the sst mode would you be putting it in D4 or does it not work that way.
same here never use mine. most i ever do is go from d5 to d4
The only difference is that with the SST shifter you select which gear the transmission goes to by moving the shifter between 2 buttons. On the regular shifter you select the gear by moving the paddle to the corresponding number on the plate.
That being the one exception. But what I was geting at is just because your car might not have the SST shifter, doesn't mean that you cant still shift between the gears yourself. Not quite. With SST you can hold 4th and 5th gear. The only ones you can hold with the non-SST shifter is 1-3.
