Problem I have a 98 lsc the check engine light is blinking I dont know the problem?

blinking = misfire.
missing badly = misfire.
there's your problem.
now, what's the cause?

coils, plugs, bad gas, coil boots, water in plug wells, oil in plugs, and so on.


got any more info? maintenance history? mileage? mods? etc.
 
Change the boots first. They are cheap and cause the majority of misfire problems on Gen II's.
 
Check codes. A code reader should tell you which cylinder(s) is/are misfiring. You can borrow a code reader at most auto parts stores and check codes in their lot. Hopefully there is one close by because I wouldn't drive the car too far when misfiring badly.
 
Yeah the flashing light is a warning that you can do permanent damage to your cats if you keep driving. Your car could be putting unburned fuel thru the converters therefor destroying them.

If you have a second car go get or rent a Scanner. If not drive to Autozone and have them scan it but drive on back roads so you aren't putting a load on the engine.
 
I took it to autozone and they said it was a number of things like maf sensor, oxygen senors,spark plugs,coils,fuel injectors so today im finally gorn take it to the shop to find out. It just went bad without a warning its crazy
 
I wish they would have just listed the code numbers for you so you could post them here. Keep updating us as to what the shop says.
 
Autozone code readers will tell you the entire car is bad, when all it really needs is a tune up
 
Yeah don't tell me you're gonna hand the keys over to those tards at autozone and just tell them "fix it". You probably drive a mark viii like most of us..because they are cheap cool cars..why give a dime to someone else to let them do a half assed job attempting to fix the problem..they have no thought process, they'll just go down the list and replace this and replace that until the check engine light is off or the problem is solved..and you'll go back to an enormous bill after fixing a bunch of sh*t that was unnecessary when it was probably something simple.
 
I had a lean and rich condition at the same time, misfire and blinking cel. New Maf fixed it.
 
Again, what is the mileage, any tune up done?

When mine was missing, it came out to be a coil at 150K. I just replaced all of them. $300 but well worth it IMO. And if the shop tells you the codes, write them down and post it here along with whatever else they tell you it is.
 
Again, when mine was missing badly it was because several boots had oil on them. Again they are cheap and easy to replace. My bet is that one or more has become oil fouled.

Pull them out and take a look of an oil is leaking into the spark plug holes.

If they are dry you can cross them off and go from there.

Please stop being vague. Take tips from here. Get codes read and ask for the exact codes they find. Then come here and tell us codes. Its 99% chance its an ignition COIL. On your year car they are called "COPs" meaning "Coil On Plug". Don't drive the car willy nilly with a FLASHING check engine light. Flashing means FIX NOW and only means "misfire".
 
the car has 141k i had it for 2 years when i got it it had 115k i never did do a tune up or wires
 
Its a good thing you've not done wires..because you don't have them, and that would have been a waste of money

Yep found out the problem I oil in plugs oil is leaking from valve cover gasket I need new plugs,coil packs,and valve cover gasket
