Rear Wheel Bearings/Hub

Are the rear hub assemblies fully replaceable like the front? No one seems to carry anything but front hub assemblies. Got a shot bearing in the drivers side rear and was hoping I could just buy a whole assembly so I could pop the thing off and on myself.

Does taking off the rear wheel hub require any special tools? Better left to a well equipped shop?
 
I used a set of 2-arm gear/bearing pullers to get the rear hubs out.

I used the same set of pullers in a very MacGuyver-esque fashion to "press" in and "press" out the bearings too...

It can be done at home this way, but I don't really recommend it, unless you've had some good experience with a set of pullers before.

If I were doing it again, I would probably pull the hubs myself and take them to a shop to have them press in/out the bearings and then reinstall them myself.

If you need a set of bearings, I have 2 Timken SET49 rear bearings that I'll never need (I actually have 4 of them, lol), if you'd like to save a little bit of money...

I despise taking my car to any shop. For one thing no one around here will let you bring your own parts, their parts or no work. Second, they take a heck of a long time with jobs I've done myself previously, didn't feel like breaking my back for, but know they don't take that long and they have all the special equipment and lifts! And they all overcharge, but who doesn't.

If it really is best to just pay a shop to press new bearings out and in then I guess I'll do it, begrudgingly. Been trying to get the search function to work for me and it doesn't look fun. Just had to be the rears, the front's are so dang easy and quick to do.
 
I've got a 20 ton press, and a couple schedule 40 steel pipes clearanced to support the knuckles while pressing bearings and hubs in and out.

Stacked 2*4s work as well.

As often as I work on Ford IRS knuckles, it made sense.
 
Are the spindle crush nuts I need to replace the same ones used on the MN12 rear?
 
There are three bushings to a hub in the back, right? Is it the same deal to stay away from Moog when replacing them?

Funny I can't find a single retailer with these stupid spindle nuts in stock. 18 dollars on ebay for a simple crush nut seems crazy.

I would do that if I had backup transportation. Taking the car apart only to be unable to put it back together in a drive-able condition for 2+ days waiting for a part is really not good for me, unfortunately.
 
Do you also use a press to remove the hub itself from the wheel knuckle? This is probably a stupid question.
 
I have used knuckle(s) that's already been hub swapped... the bearing spins smoothly, so no need to replace it...right?
