Doing a tune up

So I am going to swap most of the maintenance items out in the engine bay as I've had the car for about a month and would like to start with a clean slate as the last owner was extremely lazy.

Here is what I'm thinking:

Change out COPs
Change out Spark Plugs
Change out Belt
Take out old air box and install aftermarket cone KKM (since I'm buying a new filter anyway)
Clean out the MAF sensor

I've heard it's good to replace the intake gasket as well since I'll be in there. Is this a good idea you think?

After all that run some Lucas through it and I think she'll be running quite well.

Unless you want to take the chance of having to re-do COPs and plugs not long after doing them the first time i'd recommend sticking with motorcraft/visteon (if you can find them) coils.

Also consider new valve cover gaskets if they haven't been done recently.

By the way, many many many threads about this. You'll benefit from searching a bit.
 
Can you not get Visteon coils anymore? I tried searching and was going to send him a link to purchasing them but it seems like they disappeared? Also - my own opinion here but Lucas doesn't do anything. I'd recommend B12 chem tool over Lucas all day everyday.

Nope, they appear to have gone MIA. I'm just going to do the Accel coil conversion and be done with it for a while.

If i didnt have water leaking into my engine bay every time it rains i would probably consider these again. I made the mistake of switching to the LS boots when i first got them and ruined them a few days later after a nice rain storm.

In my opinion they made a big difference in throttle response and take off, but i've been battling bad coils for a while so who knows maybe i havent had a properly running LS in years.
 
That is the guy I bought my Visteon's from, I'll try to send him a message on ebay and see what happened to them.
 
I've always had plenty of luck with the Lucas. Had cars put 2-3MPG on along with a smoother idle after a dose of Lucas.

If you're wanting a clean slate, change the fuel filter, idler pulley and tensioner pulley as well. The idler and tensioner are wear items. Fuel filter is stupidly located behind the driver front inner wheel well.

My understanding is that they are no longer licensed to sell them. (Others who still have some stock can resell them, but they aren't making them anymore.)
 
Unless your belt is showing or sounding out signs of wear, there's no need or benefit to replacing it. It'll be that b!tch of a job that you could have focused elsewhere on something more time-worthy. Take that money and get a good syn. oil change.

Agree. They actually do seem to last to 150K.
 
I just replaced my belt at 122k miles. Just had some moderate cracking and a little whine when wet. The shop said the stock tensioner and pulleys looked fine and bearings on them were great. Put a Gatorback on there for 3/4 hour labor plus the price of the belt.

I believe the stock belt was EPDM not Neoprene. This means they wear more like a tire. When you look at the ribs of the belt, you want to look for signs that the groves/ribs in the belt are wearing down and the pulley grooves/ribs is starting to ride on the actual backing of the belt. The EPDM belt should only be engaging the pully on its ribs. Very rarely will an EPDM belt crack or chunk when it gets worn. If there is actual shiny spots or wear on the back of the grove in the belt, that belt is out of useful life.

Got one of these goodies a couple of years ago. The belt looked fine but the gauge showed otherwise! A good part of the "stinger" was buried in the grove!

The seller from ebay got back to me about the coils - He said "Unfortunately I am out of stock right now." I contacted him again asking him if this would be something he would be carrying again. He said yes and he would contact me when he has them. He's probably bs'ing since Joe said they are not licensed to sell them any longer, but figured I'd take a shot.

I know, mine have cracking however.

So I'm confused by the conversation that's transpired here.. They don't sell the OEM coils anymore? what's wrong with the ebay ones?

They do, they're kind of pricey.

Off brand ebay coils suck and you will be doing them again soon.

Visteon coils are oem like coils that are cheaper and hard to come by now.

In case that didn't clear it up...
You can still buy coils from Ford with the Motorcraft brand stamped on them. AFAIK, they are of good quality.

Specially when some bastards are hogging them and adding brand new never-used 60-1008's on thier LS stockpile shelf.
