Might be a stupid question but the chime that reminds you that your keys have been left in the car and I guess the same one that is reminding you that I have left my headlights on and the same one that comes on when the car is started..... Can it be removed? That thing really annoys me. I don't leave my headlights on, My daytime running lamp feature is always kept off. I use the switch by hand method when it's dark enough, if I need lights. Not worried there.

I leave my keys in my car at home because it's inside the garage and my son that's 10 isn't going to jump in and drive off. It's just an annoying sound that I can live without so, can it be removed or does it have to stay? Does it have a little speaker on it that can be punched out with a screw driver? I want that chime gone.

10 yr old

Some time ago a neighbor left her 10 yr old in a running car. He put it in reverse came down their driveway, accross the street,up into my yard. Onlything that got hurt was my sprinkler and his butt. Don't under estimate a 10 yr old

I have great news for you dude. Yes it can... It drove me insane too on my '93.

(GEN 1's ONLY) IN the steering column under the ignition right along side of the clock spring there's a little (& by little I mean the size of your pinky nail) metal piece on a wire that touches your key as soon as you insert it in the ignition. I yanked it off, wrapped it in electrical tape & tucked it away from the ignition. NEVER HEARD ONE CHIME AGAIN in my '93. I loved the peace & quiet afterwards. You will remember this thread forever! lol.

Thank you Alex, I'll have to check that out this weekend. Being on the phone with someone and getting in even annoys them. I hate that damn sound. I just never could find it lol. When I have stopped it, I'll post back here ASAP! I got lots to do before the cold sets in outside. Well, the 30's and 40's and the occasional 20's and very few teen nights. I can heat the garage up with the propane tank and sunflower heater that I have mounted on the tank. Me and working on a car in the cold just doesn't get along. I'm 44 with Fibro setting in but it's just now being diagnosed.

Removing that sound or even just making it quieter would be priceless! Thanks again. I'll let you know how it worked out, hopefully by Sunday.

If anyone knows how to get rid of it on a Gen2, let me know. I have locked my keys in the car before, but with the door keypad, that's not really an issue (unless the battery is dead or the keypad quits working like it did on my '96:D).

yeah. like alex said, you can unhook/tape over the wire at the ignition switch. that's done in my car too.

there is probably also a black box somewhere under the dash. i have removed said box from 1 truck and 2 tauri. sometimes they die and wont stop dinging.. other times, i just get annoyed.

I'm to assume the ignition switch inside the dash MUST have it as well. I just don't know how I would get to it being where it is. I don't spend any time working on my Gen 2's so I have yet to get annoyed.
