I just bought the new Samsung Galaxy S3 yesterday and needless to say the video quality on this phone is amazing. So I was thinking to myself, how could I set up something for in-car videos at the track.

Well, I was at Walmartz today looking for a phone case and I ran across this handy dandy mount. I never bought it, but I might go back and get it. Seeing as both of my Mark8s have a sunroof, I think this would almost work perfect attaching the suction cup to the sunroof glass and pointing the phone towards the cockpit. What do you guys think? :)

Yeah, I hear ya. I guess it doesn't necessarily have to be this mount, but this style for sure. I guess I would be looking for something that would keep my phone secure and stay attached. If it falls off in the burnout box, that would be FAIL. LOL I guess I definitely like the idea of using the sunroof glass as a mounting point because that would put the camera in an awesome position for recording video. The track videos I made last year, I borrowed my buddy's digital cam and put it on a monopod wedged between the side bolster on the passenger seat and the center console. With this new setup, I am thinking that the camera would be very close to the position that I had it last year on the monopod.

Find something that's a little more sturdy. I can see that mount vibrating all over the place.

voila, home made

I believe Trunk Monkey on TCCOA uses one with a suction cup on his rear window and some interior shots. And successfully. I'd ask him, I'm interested in this also.

I do a lot of in-car videos for my YouTube rants and I use my iPod Touch for taking the videos. I use a suction cup mount I got off ebay and it works nicely. I usually either mount it to the upper right corner of the windshield or to the passenger side window. I do most of my best "thinking" in the car:D

Agreed. Though as cheap as that is, it couldn't hurt to try it.

This one works pretty well.

(I can't see the pic at work)

A suction cup mount would work ok but the "stem" needs to be solid.

ok, just glancing at your sig pic, i thought maybe that "pole" over your car was your camera mount

It's actually my Anti-Aircraft missile launcher. I keep it on the hitch at all times, just can't trust the neighbors up nort.

Between my old Droid X2 or my Razr I use a suction cup mount and it does fine. No flutter or anything like that, just a clean video even when I was using it at Englishtown to video my Blindingly fast 15.1 :p

However I went and got a GoPro and stuck it on the outside of the back window of my friends '80 Lemans and it stuck dead steady.

DING DING DING! That's what I decided to do. ;) I bought this mount from the Sprint store for a little over $30 and it seems very sturdy. I did a short video with some throttle blasts to test it out and it performed well. The nice thing is I have a sunroof in both of my VIIIs, so this will work for the silver car next spring. She will see the track first while I go to the drawing boards with the 97.

Check it out. I like it.

Looks like that should work good. Probably even better than mounting between the seats due to seats vibrating ??

That's what I am hoping! The test video today only showed a barely noticeable amount of chatter when going over bumps in the road. I know the track is smoother! :D

I got mine from Amazon and brand new units at pennies on the dollar that way.

That’s what I did when I drove through the smoky mountains. I had just the factory Droid X windshield mount and since the camera was not obstructed I got a clear view of the road without all of the interior filling up the shot.

The sun roof looks like a good Idea as well but I think you should just put me in the car to hold the camera will you race it :D

Since my Cell only had limited quality and resolution I went and got a GoPro. However it is kinda expensive but not quite as much as the system I'm eyeing up next. Gives you your G's, RPM, MPH and the stuff you see on Top Gear when they test a car.

Just the price of it is gonna make me have to use it as a write off for my Webpage biz.
