If I close my pass. side door with the window down the window is loose. Would this be the regulator? Can I take off the sheet metal cover on the door itself to look without disturbing anything. Thank You for any help.

Much easier to remove the interior panel to inspect.

Can I take off the sheet metal cover ?!?!?! the door "insides" are accessible from behind the interior panel

Hi pektal
I did take the interior panel off and window seems to be normal when down, only rattles when door is closed. I wanted to take the sheet metal cover off to get a better look. There are black nuts that I believe are attached to the regulator. Can I remove these without disturbing the regulator and operate the window? Thanks for any advise

No...the black nuts hold the regulator. The regulator is pretty much attached to the sheet metal cover, that is what holds it in place for the most part. You won't be able to operate the window, because the regulator will move when the motor is initialized.

This is of course assuming that yours is like mine. Mine is a 2003 v6.

:)

Take the interior panel off, then close the door...

To directly answer your question, no you can't just remove the door skin. At least, not without damaging it.

Yes, it's the regulator. It can still go for a year or two before it fails all the way. I have one (driver's front) on my 04 that is this way, and has been for a couple of years. On the other hand, the passenger front broke all the way pretty quickly.

Thank You
Any guess as to what could be loose

I want to say that mine use to do this before I had to replace the regulator because it broke.

Maybe check the the plastic tabs that hold the window and see if they seem like they are about to break or loose or something. The plastic tabs are what break on the regulators.

Does your window go up and down normal?? Any strange sounds or lagging?

My had strange sounds....then eventually snapp!! and the window fell.
Lucky it didn't break or scratch my tint.

Window works fine. Just sounds like its loose in the tracks when door closed. I'll give it another shot tommorow. Thanks

Ive had this for too long to remember, last year the drivers regulator broke and it still makes the same sound with the new regulator, just haven had the time to tear it apart and check it out yet. but as summers coming to an end, probably wont be bothered by it enough until spring cruising time again

When I removed the regulator I found both of the plastic clips cracked. Replaced with new regulator and door is still rattling. When you hit a big bump it sounds like the regulator is hitting the sheetmetal mounting plate along with numerous noises. I will be removing the panel and window molding to see if I can locate the source. I put some foam bettween the bottom and side of door and closed the door on to check if door or latch was loose, this made no change,Next stop dealer.

It will be interesting to see what they find if you take to a dealer. Both my front doors have been doing this since I bought my '03 back in September of 2010. I make sure my windows aren't all the way down when I close my doors.

I had this on my driver's door and it was the clips like everyone else.

I recommend looking for the broken pieces down inside the door to remove any rattling.

Just removed inner door panel and all door trim. I found that by banging the bottom middle part of the sheetmetal cover it sounds like the motor is hitting it. Back to the mech. Somethings loose or missing.
