So with the other thread about a pillar pods I came up with an idea for gauge pods on the dash.

so here is what I have built

sorry for the two blurry pics, the water temp gauge is upside down because of the bung it has on the back, its not the gauge that's going there, its a junk gauge I used for testing size and such

If there was a way to mold that into the dash and make it look flush, I could really dig that idea. There is one more idea though. What about making a pod mount that would go where that little speaker opening is in the gen 2 center console? It would keep everything up top clean.... But yes at a loss of things being directly at eye level.

Yeah I thought about that but I am not sure how I could mold it in with the texture of the dash. It may end up looking like a blob on the dash. I will play with it more until its what I really want. But not bad for the first run at it

That would drive me nuts with it jutting out so far. Looks cool though.

Cool ideas.

What speaker?

Maybe it is not a speaker. I have seen pics of a little mesh cover in the very lower left dash area just in front of where the center console meets near the ashtray(near the floor). Not sure what to call it but it is the area that is normally covered by our right knee if we would be when driving.

I was thinking something like this for a dash pod. Drill through the "shelf" in front of the cluster, and thread a low profile nut on from underneath. The gauge would then sit in recessed with a small overhang, stealing syling aspect from the rest of the dash.

Close, that looks a little out of place though. Not saying mine wouldn't either, but this would be as small as possible to hold a 1.5" gauge and sit in front of the cluster somewhere, on the black part in front of the clear plastic, maybe one on the left and one on the right. Edit: kind of like this though I intended them to aim straight out, I guess you could aim them if you desired.

^^^^ That might be an issue, you will block the view of the message center and the miles. What I am doing is cutting into the bezel to I can push the gauges into the bezel so only a little stick out and will be angle toward the rivers. I'll take a picture of what I have so far.

please do I am interested to see what you are up to, I saw the concept art but would really like to see what you are working on

This is what I have so far. I was only able to work on this for about an hour before having to take my car to the shop last year.

You get the idea. I'm going for the one that is more angle so it doesn't block as much view to the stock gauges.Everything will be filled in with fiberglass, bondo, both, or something similar, I haven't decided yet. Any suggestions?

That will be nice if there's clearance there. I'm not too eager to rip the dash out to find out. Do you have yours out or is that a spare piece laying around? There is actually a decent amount of room to get a gauge in that corner without blocking message center view, etc.

Alax, that looks great, I really like that Idea, where did you get the pod, or did you cut it off a pillar pod type deal.

Bought an extra one to practice, a test piece I guess, but if it comes out good enough it will be the final piece. Yeah, there is enough clearance behind the bezel for the gauge to sit angled like that. You do have to cut a little bit off of when you take the bezel off, it just this lip that doesn't allow you to pusht he gauge far back enough. I think I only cut about 1/2'' out off the lip, nothing major.

I bought a cheap universal dual pod cover and cut them off. You can find them real cheap online.
