so ive been hearing that the 1st gen mark viii intakes flow a lot better than the 2nd gen intakes. so my question is a 1st gen intake swap into a 2nd gen feasible? and what all are the advantages if it will work? im guessing because of the runner design that maybe more low end torque, but what about higher RPM power? ALSO. was thinking about the intake from a 98 continental, i have a 98 continental and it looks similar to the gen 1 intake. maybe better, and would it work?

i do know that my 98 continental feels faster than the mark. and has gobs of low end torque, but im thinking thats mostly gearing.

my 98 base mark and 98 continental.

continental has custom K&N intake and a glasspack muffler.
mark has custom intake with paper filter and rear mufflers removed.

there about the same i would say. but driving them is totally different.
anyways yea im thinking the continental intake would work. i would have to go to the junkyard and do some experimenting

In the real world the Mark is faster with an LSC faster still. Forget the intake, get some 4.10's or 4.30's with a T-lok, tune and converter first. The tune is important as the second gen is saddled with a horrible stock tune.
And no, your swap idea is not really a good one. A Cobra intake swap is what you would want.

Despite the various parts searching to make it possible, I think that a Cobra intake is going to be easier than swapping a Gen1 intake and it is going to be easier to work on AND it is going to probably net as much if not more power than a Gen1 intake.

It's all over when you start modifying the Mark VIII. The Mark VIII is mod-friendly, the Continental is not. ;)

And you can chose your priorities, but the Cobra intake was worth up to a half-second on my Gen2. My previous best was 14.1 with stock intake. I ran a best of 13.59 with the Cobra intake.

FULL exhaust will compliment the intake swap to a much greater degree. I am tempted to say that the results will be mediocre at best if you do the swap on a Gen2 with stock exhaust.

And don't listen to marked8. According to his signature, he has one waiting to be put on. He'll know what I mean when he gets his swap done. :p

kirk you been smokin again? he plainly says the cobra is better.

Gen 1 intake is better for torque, gen 2 actually is better for high rpm. I wouldn't waste time trying to swap to a gen 1 intake. Get a Cobra intake.

I revved my gen 2 intake to 7000rpm, gen 1 was best shifted at 6600rpm.

I wonder what I would have ran in the 1/4 mile on my stock intake. I might have had 13s sooner. I shifted at 6100 rpms on the 1-2 and 6300 rpms on the 2-3 back in 2010 when I ran my best of 14.1 on the stock intake.

Short shifting and falling flat on its face launching off idle(another mistake). Ugghh.
