Hey its been a few weeks and yes something else has gone wrong. My '95 motor drooped the end of a valve and bent the stem as the valve end broke off and bounced around inside the cylinder...head is toast and a punched hole through the piston, I won't bother with a compression test.

My question is my mark viii is a 1995, I am interested in swapping a '97 or '98 junkyard dog to keep mobile. I plan on using my gen1 intake and figuring out the coil over plug thing, need advice on other issues I am not aware of.

The reason for a newer year model '97-'98 motor is fewer miles and bee-hived springs. I think I have a line on a '97 with 92,000 miles

Again the question is can different gen2 motor be dropped into a gen1 minding the hood clearance and using 1.) my snaked gen1 intake 2.) figure out the new coil over plug connections I'm not clear about.

yeah, the newer engine will work.
and you don't have to use COP if you don't want too.
the motor will clear the hood with a gen 1 intake.
just put both motors side by side and swap everything that looks different.

94m5 and DieselDan have a thread somewhere about all the wiring needed for the COP swap as well.

Yes you do have a good point about the COP In this forum I read up on a few conversions others have done on these. I didn't have the newer style valve covers. I have my old valve covers to do A anti-COP conversion if I can't figure it out...wonder if it will also work for the men in blue:shifty:

Im not sure but isnt the heads on the 97-98 motor C-heads? I dont think the intake from a gen1 will bolt up.. Something to research I guess.. Food for thought..
Bill

Good Luck.

No 97-98 are still B heads. 96 also came with Beehive valve springs just like the 97-98 if you are looking for an easier swap.

no they're not c heads. im surprised the 97 motor didnt come w/ valve covers. the 2 i bought used came complete. if possible id do the cop conversion yo the newer style and leave the 97 motor intact forget the old intake what does snaked intake mean.but i believe yo'll need the computer from the 97-98 to run the cop, not sure, but someone here does.

do not forget the old intake. the snake intake is the gen 1 intake. the runner tubes look like snakes. stock for stock, it is better than a gen 2 intake. a gen 2 intake is also taller, and may not fit under the hood of a gen 1.

i would also do the COP swap. it is some pretty minor wiring really.

GEN2 intake will not fit under a gen1 Hood.

Gen 2 intake will fit with some modification under gen 1 hood just like a Cobra intake.

Either dropping the subframe 1/2" with spacers (very stupid bad idea) , or jacking up the back of the Hood hinges about 3/8 after chopping all the framing away that hits

Right, by "won't fit" I meant without some tweaking..lol. anything can fit anywhere with the right force :)
