Woohoo!! I finally got my Xcal2 unlocked from my old car. Got a new tune from Torrie and man did it wake the LS up! It is really fun to drive now and the TBW is no longer mushy. :)
Now to get my PRP switched over to the LS.

Cool. I'm gonna have to get one after I'm done with all my audio work and have a little cash laying around.

Jeff -if your PCM code is part of the SCT database - Torrie adds his tunes to it - it doesn't matter year, options, drivetrain.....

Quick LS

Is the Xcal2 worth the cost, does it really do enough to the car to warrent spending the money? I have been pondering this for my SHO for bit, but I have not heard a lot of rave reviews, other than it fixes the slush box. I do realize the LS is a tad different, so hence the question.

Any info would be appreciated...thanks

IMHO - it is the single best performance adder for the $ you can buy.

Once you have it - then any mod you do afterwards can be tuned to the max for it.

I am on the 15th different tune - removed the rev limiter in P/N, modified the shift points, lowered the fan temp,... and now with the SC project - running larger injectors, removed the ERG, ...

I just got the Xcal, how do I change settings?

yeah i have the same questions on the xcal, is it really worth it? how does it work to get all of those things you mentioned quick like removing the rev limiter ect... does it need to be taken somewhere to be done or do u do it yourself? do you have to buy extra things or sofware? or is it just $400 bucks and unlimited tunes ect...

what is the diffrence between xcal 1 and xcal 2?
Eamonn

The XCal2 replaces the XCal1

The XCal2 has:
- user adjustablity
- datalogging
- place for a a/f meter to be attached
- clear DTCs

the tuner can set up many parameters to you choosing. i have a local source who is selling them for around $330. pm me if interested.

Here's the way I look at it -
The SCT Dealer - the tuner - is the guy that understand how to tune the car. If you get someone that is familiar with the LS, has tuned a bunch and has had them on the dyno - then his expertise is what you are paying for.

They create the performance tune file for you - and the XCal is the tool to get it into you car.

The fact that the XCal has some minor end-user ajustibility is really not much good to most people - is the tune file you want, created by someone that knows what they are doing.

The XCal does you no good without the SCT Dealer (the Tuner) creating files for you.

I finally got the key to unlock my PRP for the LS. Whoah! TMI!! It is very interesting to browse around in, but I can see where you could get into real trouble if you're not careful.

I'll just let Torrie do the tuning. :)

2003 LS No Power!!!

I sure hope the XCAL2 fixes this!!! With the Advancetrac turned off and on wet pavement I can NOT get the tires to spin at all!! The dealer says this is normal!!! What a bunch of crap!! 286 ft-lb of torque and you can't spin the tires on wet pavement????

I am having the same exact same problems with my 03 plus the check advance trac light comes on and dealer can't find out why. I got my Xcal2 last week and my tune last night. I'm gonna pick the car up at the dealer tonight and see if that doesn't get some rubber burning.

Question: Under what conditions would you WANT your tires spinning on Wet Pavement?

When you have drag slicks and want to heat them up in the waterbox?

FWIW wear on your tires as well as tire pressure have as much to do with grip as torque from the drivetrain. At the end of their life, my old Kuhmo's would break loose very easily and were downright unsafe through corners at speed. I could not drive the car in the rain because the a$$end was all over the place. With the new Riken's, the car grips and rips.

i have a 04 LS and i have no problems in powerbraking or spining tires when wet and i do turn of advanced trak...

Used XCal2

I did a search guys! And I'm wanting to unlock my SCT XCal2. I bought a used one just to see if it will work. It hasn't come in yet but I was told it was tuned to another car. But reading this, it seems that I can unlock it with the help of Torrie. (By the way, Torrie, can you look up my vin to see if you've unlocked my code?)

So my question is this... Who has a 2006 LS with the K&N Typhoon Intake and the XCal2? Because if anyone has that setup, they've probably configured their tune just right for the '06.

Thanks guys.

you can unlock the XCal with the software you can download from SCT.

this will allow it to be used for your car... however, you need a tune file first (to upload into the your car).

the tune file is built on top of your specific PCM code - so you cannot simply use one from another car unless it is the same PCM code.

That's where tuners like Torrie come in - they have a database of these PCM files of all different code and can then change the tuning of that file - then send it to you (then you upload it into your XCal, then into your car).

Since the tuners make money one selling their tunes with the XCal, I have no idea what they charge to supply tunes for someone who bought the XCal second hand.

On the 03 and up, hitting the AdvanceTrac button turns off only the anti-skid portion of the system, NOT the traction control. That's why you have this problem. The procedure to completely disable AdvanceTrac including traction control is in the owner's manual. Am I the only one who reads these things?
