Was curious what does it cost to unlock an xcal 2 tuner. Ive got a friend down the road that sold his LS but didnt unlock it before he sold the car.

It's either $125 or $150 to unlock it.

noob question but whats it mean to unlock it does it return the tuner to stock ?

it 'un-marries' the XCal from the current car (which it is holding the stock PCM program for) and allows it to be used on a different car. Once it has been unlocked 5 five the XCal is disabled and needs to be returned to SCT.

I am pretty sure I can unlock it with the old-school resource CD that came with my xCal.
ONLY if the previous car was returned to stock will you be able to do that
trust me..been there done that.
I thought the same thing when I bought a 50 dollar X2 off ebay.
the REAL deal is
to unclock
pay shipping both ways to sct
pay 150 unlock fee
wait over 10 days
the tuner will be blank with no tunes on it when you receive it back, so then you'll have to pay an sct dealer to put tunes back on the device.
