It is just the air silencer he is removing, one of the NVH features of the car. I have done so on all 3 of my Mark VIII's. No increase in HP, a little increase in noise.

so its perfectly safe to do?? i thought that was the inlet pipe for cold are to get into the intake. is another "silencer right on top of the manifold that comes off of the inlet tube? so if thats one, wheres the 3rd one.

Don't see why he didn't just take the air box out at that point? He was looking for noise or something along with more HP even tho he is swallowing more hot air
