... well at least for me.

WARNING: long post.

Last month I decide to replace my leaky power steering pressure hose. Started at the power steering pump, everything was going fine until I got to the other end of the line. I didn't realize there was another short line between the pressure line and the rack, and ended up breaking that short line. Stupid move on my part. After doing some searches, I found that it was a dealer only part. Being a Sunday I knew I wouldn't be able to get to it until the next weekend, so I decided that since the Speed Control Recall had never been done, I would bite the bullet and pay the dealer to do it, and the recall at the same time. I figured it would be expensive, but at least it would be done quickly and correctly. Worst decision I ever made.

Now the fun begins.

Monday: Brought the car in. Made sure they were OK using the pressure line I supplied. Also gave them three quarts of Mercon V, and even gave them the Ford part# of the piece I broke. Told them to do the pump too, since it was making noise from going low on fluid a bunch of times.

Tuesday: They call and tell me the part is discontinued, but they can get one from a dealer in Vermont, but it will take a couple of days.

Thursday: I call, still no part.

Friday: Part came in, mechanic is working on it, be done on Monday.

Monday: "Bad news, mechanic had trouble getting line off, the threads stripped out of your rack, you need a new rack ($220) and an alignment ($100)."

Tuesday: "Line you supplied is wrong line, dealer line is $400, but we can get you one from Nap for $50, but we need to order it"

Thursday: "Line came in, same as one you supplied, turns out we need an adapter, having shipped overnight, will be here Monday".

Well at this point I was pissed. I emailed the owner, was very polite, told him the situation, and said I was very disappointed, and that I wanted a loaner vehicle. I get a call from the Service manager: "Owner gave me your email and told me 'Make it right'." Tells me I'm not going to have to pay for the alignment (which I had bitched about since it wouldn't have needed to be done if they hadn't ruined the rack), they were going to discount the price of parts, and they were going to rent me a car since all their loaners were out.

Monday: No part yet.

Thursday (yup, that is Thursday): Part came in, it's the wrong part.

Friday: Part came in, your car is done! ($1180). They didn't use my line, but used the one they ordered which was twice as expensive. They didn't use the Mercon V I supplied, they used their own and charged me. Turns out the adapter they needed, that they didn't order until almost two weeks into the job, was actually the short line which I gave them the part# for when I dropped off the car.

Well, I pick up the car, but it feels a little weird in the steering. I figured maybe it was just me since I was used to the rent-a-car which was front wheel drive. Next day I take it to the store and realize the steering is not returning on it's own, I have to manually turn it back on every corner, and the wheel is shaking back and forth. So three weeks they had it, and this is what they give me back. Then I get under the car and see that all the factory clips for the line are gone, and the hose is being held in with zip-ties. I flipped out and emailed the owner again, told him I was not happy and that I had no confidence in his service department and asked him what I should do now. Well, no response from him, but the service consultant calls me, tells me to bring it back in and they'll fix it.

He says they fixed the steering, caster and toe-in settings were off. Also says they replaced all but one clip that wouldn't come off the old line. Steering seems to be OK now, but I get under the car today to find only one clip was put on (In the wrong place on the line) and the rest of it is still zip tied to the front support bracket, and it looks as though they bent the line to fit where they strapped it in.

I am pissed, and not sure how I'm going to handle it at this point. Might right to Ford Corporate. One thing for sure, is they are never touching my car again!

Sorry for the rant, but I needed to vent....

Sounds like something they would do. I took my black 94 to the dealer because I had a gas leak, which was coming from the front of the fuel tank. To shorten this, I was told I needed a new fuel neck (because mine was bent?) I needed a new fuel tank and I needed a new fuel pump lol. I paid $87 to hear that it would be $1500.00 or more to fix. I told them to get it off the lift.

I dropped the tank, pulled the pump and found that the ring that holds the pump down, the rubber seal was wrinkled and off center in one spot from previous owners install. I swapped rings with a good one (that was 14 years old) and the leak was fixed. Pump, tank and neck all worked perfect from 2005 till 2010 when I blew the car up by accident.

I know exactly what you're saying but in my case, everything was said and done with the dealer in 2 hours. My fix took less than an hour and cost ZERO.

I avoid dealers like the plague. They overcharge and often do things worse than a shade tree mechanic would do.

Normally I do all my own work. I got my Mark (95 blk/blk) back in June, and have since done the coil conversion, 1.25 rear sway bar and true duals myself (helps to have your own pipe bender). But I broke my own rule of never letting anyone else touch my car. Never again....

Thats one of the worst dealer story I've heard. Good luck finding someone to correct if for you.

Back when I had a 97 tbird I took it to the dealer for a tranny leak, left there for a week and they said it was fixed. I went and brought it home, drove it for a while and it started to leak again. Took it back to ford and found out it was never fixed. Apparently the broken car section was full and so they put it in the fixed lot and they forgot about it. I called the boss and told him my situation, he calls his people and I get 50% off on labor and sister-law's family discount. But now I have this lovely beast to fix now with very little funds and know how, some you guys have been a big help so far so I'm thankful for that..

find out who your regional ford rep is and give him a call. im sure he will get things done for you.
