I am going to have some work done on my car by an old family friend who really needs the work and so I am looking to get opinions on what the following work would really cost. I have not seen an estimate from him yet (just gott off the phone with him)

I am going to...

1. replace the air system with $$OEM bags, compressor, dryer (anything else I should do?).
2. almost Complete brake system, discs, calipers, brake lines. (anything else?).
3. Rebuild front end, UCA, LCA Tie rods, bushings, ball joints, (anything else?).

Given the scope of work is there anything else I should look into? Opinions greatly welcome.

I have 77k on the 96LSC.

I have no illusions that the poor guy is not going to try and make some good money on this, which I am okay with, but I don't want to be a chump. He has some major health issues and his wife just got laid off and so he has no health ins at the moment and a bleeding esophegus(SP?). I am going to give a dealership a chance to do an estimate too.

that is gonna be a HUGE estimate from the dealership.
Guesstimate.. over 3K less than 5K.
that is why they call them "stealerships".

The air ride parts are about 700ish dollars, 200 labor would be fair.
(id replace all your air ride for 200)
Same for the front end, roughly 2-300 dollars labor

all the brakes probably 100-200 labor
(id probably do your brakes for 150ish)

700 labor for that job would be a decent deal.

always a good idea to get a 2nd estamate. And me working as a service writer at a shop, i can tell you we mark up out parts so if you buy the parts and the shop will put them on, your better off.

Might have him check the stabilizer bar hardware(bushings & links) Possibly some shocks?

as long as you are dong the breaks upgrade to 99+ mustang gt breaks for the front and for oem bags just the fronts are $700 for the pair

Stealership came in at about 7k for what is listed above!!!
I expected about 5k from them.

Your hired, how do I get you up to boston?

sorry I dont do "baahhhston", it's too far.
lol

yea I figured the estimate would be about 2 times what the car is worth...

I figured 5K low side estimate, nice to see the stealership didn't disappoint me as they are trying to rape you with "NO LUBE".

Call Max at fivestarford.com he's in the parts dept.

Get a price quote from, using your estimate for reference.

On what I presume is about 3K in parts, Max will be able to save you a TON of money...and you'll be getting OEM ford parts as well.

Max takes very good care of this community, make sure you mention LVC when you call him to get the best pricing available

Great idea I will do that. I'd like my guy to make a little off the parts as I want to help him out but I don't want to get raped.

If you buy the parts, he should be able to make his share off the labor.
no need for him to mark up the parts prices.

You have to use a Thunderbird Rotor, 99 Mustang Caliper and caliper bracket and modify the brake line...

If you fly me to Boston I'll do everything for FREE :D

Will Jet Blue let you take all your tools too?
I'll have to fly you out to 5 star ford in arizona to pick up the parts, then fly up here to boston, then head to the burbs to do the work at my dads garage. Sound okay;)

I wish I had some Mark VIII enthusiasts up around here.
Lost my really good mechanic too. This family friend is a good guy but painfully slow. But that's okay, i have the MKZ to drive.

After I get this work done I get to install the 3 piece wing.
I am so psyched.

I saw some somewhere in my forum travels that were serious upgrades but required no modification. Thought they were from Super Coupe something or other.

Well not sure where North Branch is but I am guessing about a days drive?

If you drive to my house I will do everything 100% free.

Hell I'd do that for any LVCER....

Can you make brake lines too, then? That's the only part of Warden's list I'd have serious trouble with - especially if he wanted all new lines run - some parts of the lines appear to be a pita to access.

North Carolina - now that sounds a little better than minnesota right about now. You saying you'd do the work too? Sorry Kid but it's been a tough winter here. I might have to head south for about a 20 hr ride:D
