Why won't body kit parts like side skirts from other vehicles fit? Or will they?

I know this has been mentioned before, but with so many after market parts for Honda, Nissan & so on there has to be parts that will fit on the LS kinda like the Mustang Mach 1 chin spoiler. Not sure if anyone has tried something like this or not, but if the length is the same as the bottom side of the LS it could be very possible one would think. Plus with there being a huge market for some of these cars the prices would be a lot less than the scarce few parts that are out there for the LS.

Here's an example of something that may work on the LS. This is a side body kit for a 03-05 Honda Accord. This is just an example, but I'm sure you all get the point & where I'm going with it. There's so many of us out there looking for stuff like this that may work.

Body kits are tailored to specific vehicles.

Not only is there the length of the skirts, but alos the width. Too many factors to account for. And a lot of body kits dont even fit the vehicle they are designed for properly.

Why not just get the Wings West side skirts? They look good and flow with the car.

anything will fit with the right amount of work to make them fit. Cutting, shaping, fiber glassing etc...

Personally, I wouldn't go with the WW kit. The price I paid for them as to how they fit the car is very dissapointing. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I know it's made for a Gen 1, and I'm trying to apply it to a Gen 2, but they expect you to fasten it to the car with the double sided tape, and no fasteners............ahhhhh what?????

My buddy is an x body shop guy that works on the side at home and he's got more time into fitting the ground effects to the car than he does prepping and painting them.

So long story short, yes I would definetly look at other vehicle options for ground effects on this car.

The reason why there are no fasteners is because your supposed to drill out your own location in reference to the stock body panel. The holes aren't pre drilled from the company due to the molding process and the extra time it would take to drill out each and every kit.

Your buddy should have known this, and every kit has some fitment issues, even WALD and K Break kits that run into the thousands need adjustment, every car is different and every kit that is pulled from the mold is different, hense the reason why they need to be adjusted.

Lets look at a side skirt shall we.

1 side skirt off a diffrent car would have to be cut to length, so if its shorter the middle would have to be cut, spaced properly and supported.

2.From here is would have to have some seriously fiber glassing down to and fill the extension gap. From there it would have to have bondo work down to smooth it.

3. The mounting are may need to be extended depending on the cars application and how it fits under the door and into the wheel opening.

4. prep and paint...

That's about a good 60hrs worth of work just on the side skirts, ever seen how hard it is when you have to cut a front of rear bumper down the middle, then in half to widen to shorten it, then on the side to shape it and piece it together to make it fit?

Unless your looking to go full on show car, the amount invested is not worth the investment of more the 3k plus paint it would cost to do it. This was the price quote I got for another car I own to have this done with a kit that's not made for it.

I was only using the WW kit as an example. Get some that will fit. Of course there are always small fitment issue with any kit. But some that's real close is better than way far off for a different make and model.

Untill you have this Lincoln LS kit in your hands you won't understand the fitment issue and the poor build quality, trust me. I'm not just talking about fasteners, I'm talking about dry fitting it up to the vehicle, just to even get an idea of were to place fasteners.

Only side skirts that would be really close would be from an S-Type due to the wheel base. Still would be fitment issues.

I did have a WW kit in my hands for a while until I went a different route with the appearance, and currently have a ww front lip on the car. Had no problems with the quality or the install of the lip..The biggest problem I had was keeping the lip area flat around the fog light area because of the curve until the adhesive took...

And I didnt need to dry fit it to know were to place the fasteners, I made a template using stock lower "lip" and poster board, marked the mounting holes which gave me my mounting points matching the factory locations, transferred the marks to the WW lip and wallllaaaaa

WOW!!!! The Wings West kit has fitment issues. Shocked there. I expected better from them. My Razzi kit fit perfect.:) Thou I did ignore there suggestion of removing the lower grille for fitment purposes. Cutting disk and few well place cuts. the front fit fine with the lower grille still in place.

To use skirts from another vehicle. For starters, you will need the same length skirts. Unless you want to do fiberglass work to make them fit like JVIP posted. For the front and rear pieces, i suggest lip kit type pieces. They will have to be the same width for starters. Plan to be doing some fiberglass work for sure with them. The curve of the frotn and rear bumpers will be a real pain to get right.

Good place to start with Jaguar S-Type. VIS & Veilside kits are the same. Extreme Dimensions make a kit.

that silver jags front lip is almost exact to the wings west as far as looks

I think the side flars out a bit more. But VERY similiar. I think it would be a cool look for the LS. I like the side skirts of the Jag more then the options the LS has. The rear is "iffy" at best.

I remember having to trim the corners on the front and rear factory valences to get the 1st Gen WW kit to fit over them without removal and cutting out the exhaust tip half rounds using a 1 qt paint can for a template.
Other than that it fit great.
The side pieces went on no problem after removing the factory rockers.

@ 04SCTLS

love that color man !!!

Why would you want a Lincoln LS to look like a Honda or Nissan?

Does putting a Mustang Mach 1 Spoiler make the LS look like a Mustang? Does the BMW M3 trunk lip make the LS look like a BMW? I'm not trying to make the LS look like a Honda or Nissan I'm just trying to come up with some options for all of us by thinking out loud. Plus I'm sure if a Honda side skirt kit fit on the LS nobody is gonna look at the LS & say oh look at that Honda...

Yeah, that is a rare color for an LS. I don't see too many on the road, but mines the same color as 04SCTLS. 04SCTLS, you wouldn't happen to still have your rear center OEM valance do you? :D

It's there under the WW skirt.
I just trimmed the corners on the kit or the factory valence; I forget now which, so the kit would just fit over it.
I'll see if I can find the pics of the job on my other pc and post them.:)

I think you have a great idea about putting something different on your car.
Props to you for going outside the "Lincoln LS forum" box for a new modification or idea.

Don't reveal were you live though, or the Lincoln LS forum monkey-see, monkey-do police will come give you a ticket for going outside the box.

I think I'm gonna change my name to #2 Ford fan, or Jwerner3, or Petesweetwhateverth:q:q:q:qitwas....

Here's the mods to fit the WW kit on to a Gen 2 without removing the front and rear valences.

Not too difficult.

After fitting it up I painted the parts off the car with single stage 2 part urethane.
Single stage paint is much better for urethane bodyparts like the WW kit as its a lot more flexible than 2 stage paint and won't flake off if scratched or scraped on a curb ramp.
